The 2011 Rock and Roll of Fame nominees have been announced. This year's class is as notorious as it is eclectic. This year, the 2011 Rock and Roll of Fame have nominated over 15 individuals and groups. Most notable are rap pioneers The Beastie Boys, rapper, turned actor LL Cool J, and everyman rock group Bon Jovi. Also on the list of nominations are shock rocker Alice Cooper, Neil Diamond, Donovan and Laura Nyro, "Night Tripper" Dr. John, J. Geils Band, disco diva Donna Summers, Chic, Darlene Love, Joe Tex, and the "King of the Stroll" Chuck Willis.

The final list of inductees will be announced in a ceremony in December. The 2011 Rock and Roll of Fame formal induction will take place March 14 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York.

This is the first nomination for possible inclusion into the 2011 Rock and Roll of Fame for several groups. Other acts have been nominated without success. Acts such as Chic, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Donna Summer, Darlene Love have several nominations under their belt.

To be enshrined into the 2011 Rock and Roll of Fame, individuals and groups must be voted on by a panel of over 500 from the Rock and Roll Hall of fame Foundation. An artist is eligible 25 years after their release of their first single of their first album. For example, first time nominee of the 2011 Rock and Roll of Fame, Bon Jovi released their first single/album in 1986.

The positivity surrounding the 2011 Rock and Roll of Fame is if an act is not inducted, they are eligible in following years. With the mix of genres of the nominees for the 2011 Rock and Roll of Fame, the induction ceremony should be something worth watching.
