Best Sex Positions to Use when Getting Pregnant

Jamie Lloyd
The best time to get pregnant is when you're ovulating, between the 12th and 20th day of your cycle. So keep in mind first and foremost that timing is everything. It's good to have sex every day when you're ovulating. If your partner's sperm count is good this will increase your chances.

But if you and your partner have been trying to conceive for a while and you're beginning to worry, you're probably wondering about different things that you can do, including whether or not some positions work best than others.

There is no scientific proof that any one sex position works better than the other. But there are few things that you can try to improve the odds. It is believed that the missionary position may be your best bet when trying to conceive. The missionary position allows for deeper penetration, and when your partner ejaculates, his sperm is deposited closer to your cervix. The objective, when you're trying to conceive is for the sperm to get to the cervix and then to the fallopian tube as quickly and easily as possible.

You should also consider placing a pillow beneath your hips during or after sex. This allows your cervix to rest in the semen for approximately 15-20 minutes with your pelvis slightly elevated, thus giving the sperm adequate time to swim to your cervix. You do not have to stick your legs up in the air, and you do not need an expensive infertility pillow, just make sure that the pillow you use is not too large since this can cause the sperm to end up behind your cervix.

Your Uterus

It is also important to know if you have a tipped Uterus. In that case, it may be better having intercourse from behind with the woman on her hands and knees because the sperm will have better access to your cervix.

Sex Positions You May Want to Avoid

Any positions where the female is sitting, standing, or bending over should be avoided when you're trying to conceive. The sperm may have a very difficult if not impossible job getting to your cervix. Again, the objective is to keep the sperm inside the woman, not leaking out.

Some believe that if the woman reaches orgasm, the contractions will draw the sperm toward her cervix and into her uterus. Again, there is no scientific proof or data to back this up, but it doesn't hurt to keep in mind.

If your partner ejaculates inside you when you're ovulating, there is a chance that you can conceive a baby no matter which sexual position you're in. If both you and your partner are healthy and there are no medical reasons that would prevent you from conceiving, try them all and have fun.
