Brookton Highway Chair Shufflers Update

Jaahda Jinnah
Sorry this update has been so long in arriving. In the last three months I've written many articles in my head but, one way or another I'm sure I've been too busy for my own good and I've traversed the Highway many, many times since my last update.

Just prior to the August school holidays I noticed that no chairs were on the Highway and I wondered if the chairs had somehow run their course and their unknown job or purpose was somehow complete. The next week as I returned to the city the chairs were, sadly in a way still absent.

Then on my next journey down the Brookton Highway they were there again and this time there was a kettle placed alongside the chair which was absent of the aforementioned effigy. Perhaps the effigy had gone for a little bush walk after a refreshing cup of tea.

I wondered if the chair shufflers had somehow come across my articles and taken up the idea of placing a kettle (or a Billy) alongside the chair. After all if you punch 'Brookton Highway' into the Australian google search-engine my articles come up within the first few results. I then wondered if I could perhaps be charged for inciting highway vandalism (or art).

And on this particular trip the Highway chairs surely proliferated. Along the track a bit farther along there were three chairs in a little cluster. There was a big chair, with a medium sized one alongside it with a baby chair sitting on it.

One week later as I returned the baby chair had been removed, as also had the kettle farther along though the effigy was once again sitting in it's chair gazing steadfastly over the highway.

The kettle never did return during subsequent trips and on the trip immediately after the school holidays the 'mother' (medium) chair also vanished from the three chair cluster.

Over the next three trips the effigy remained sitting peacefully in it's chair though the remaining chair from he three chair cluster also disappeared - never to return to this day.

During last week's trip the Highway was sadly absent of any chairs. The effigy and it's chair were gone. I thought that perhaps I had 'zoned out' and failed to notice then on my way to the farm but alas on my return journey I did not notice any chairs either.

Perhaps whoever 'they' are took them away because I stopped writing about them. Or perhaps there is completely another reason that I have so far failed to conclude.

Keep posted.
