the Devil Wind's of Autumn

M.S.Medina
The winds of Autumn begin to blow
knocking down brown, drying leaves and the tattered scarecrow.
Dry and hot are the short, hectic days,
when the brightly colored trees seem to light the world ablaze.
The nights seem to be long, dark and cold
and soon become the kind of
time when a mystery starts to unfold.

Children in costume giggle with glee,
waiting to sight a monster and run, a quick chance to flee,
with sweet treasures tucked tightly all up in their arms,
home to snuggle in bed quietly, at last safe from harm.

The winds of Autumn are blowing once more
They chase away dark clouds and bang at the door
The gusts blow away lawn chairs and the old door mat.
They chase away demons and rile the cat.
Some call them devil winds, about this I don't know,
just make sure you hold on to your hat,
and think about me,
when the Autumn winds blow.

The devil's winds, huh? Well sometimes it felt that way while growing up in Chicago - "The Windy City." However, autumn is still my favorite season of the year :) Thanks for sharing this poem.
