Jeff Goldblum returns to the island, actually he is manipulated into returning to the island because he wants to get there and rescue his girlfriend. It's not that they've heard that she's in trouble or anything but his character, Ian, just knows that she WILL get into trouble and be eaten. Even though she's a dinosaur expert. Plus he finds that this is another island, Site B, where the dinosaurs were made before being taken to the other island where the actual zoo was going to be.
As a small team of dinosaur experts and photographers - Ian, his girlfriend Sarah, Vince Vaughn and Ian's daughter [who stows away in the science RV] plus one other guy are to go to the island to protect the dinosaurs and document their lives.
Along comes another team of dinosaur experts i.e. hunters who are going to capture the dinosaurs to take them back to San Diego, CA to a zoo that they plan to start there. There is also one hunter who just wants to hunt the male T-Rex since he's hunted nearly everything else in his life.
Ian's team interferes when the hunters capture several dinosaurs by freeing them. And by doing so, Ian's team ends up bringing the wrath of a pair of T-Rex parents down upon themselves. One of them is killed, and they end up being forced to team up with the hunters. All their supplies have been destroyed and there is no way to call for help to get off the island.
Nearly everyone is killed by dinosaurs except for the rest of Ian's team, his daughter, and a couple of the hunters.
The hunters capture the male T-Rex and take it back to San Diego, CA. Think King Kong here because that T-Rex gets loose on the ship, eats everyone and then gets loose when the ship crashes into the dock. The T-Rex goes on a rampage through town and Ian and his girlfriend save the day be rescuing the baby t-rex from a lab where it had been taken, then using it as bait to get the male T-Rex back onto the ship and locked into the cargo hold so that they [baby and father] can be shipped back to the island.
This movie has even more dinosaur action than the first Jurassic Park. We don't even watch the first part of the movie anymore, we just skip straight to the island so that the boys can see all the dinosaurs.
Once again, this is a family movie for OUR family. The boys love dinosaurs and the dinosaurs are very realistic in this movie. There are not a lot of gross-out gory scenes here so we are ok with the boys seeing the dinosaurs do what they do best - eat people!
The Lost World, Jurassic Park is rated PG-13.
