vehicle from the com-
munity where you live
because more informa-
tion is usually available
regarding how the
vehicle was main-
tained.
Additionally,
investigating and
test driving the vehicle
does not require long
distance traveling.
That being said, however, with the Internet and vehicle sites like Auto Trader
in addition to the others, more and more people are willing to travel a distance
to purchase a used or even a new vehicle.
If you live in a snowbelt area of the country, you might want a vehicle from
the south as the bodies and frames of such transportation has not been attacked
by winter salt. This addresses the 'not too cold' part of this article. But what
about the 'not too hot' part?
Well, hopefully, the vehicle is not 'hot' as in lifted! The not too hot means
that vehicles from extremely warm locations can have their own unique
difficulties. Rather than facing the challenges of salt covered roads, these
vehicles can have dried out gaskets that result in oil leaks, dry rotted rubber
seals, or dashes that have discolored or cracked, etc. So, too cold locations
can potentially present problems and too warm location can also present
problems.
So what is the vehicle buyer to do? If you are willing to purchase a
vehicle at a distance from where you live, consider seeking a 'moderate
climate'. The location should be warm enough that winter salt is not
required and therefore, the vehicle's body should be good. Furthermore,
it is a plus if the roads are smooth without suspension hammering potholes.
On the other hand, however, the location would not be excessively hot as
to cook the vehicle's components. Thus, ideally you would be seeking a
moderate climate or the best of both worlds!
Other considerations when buying a vehicle from another location or
state include the state inspection and emissions (be certain to buy from
a location that has both as some places do not have one or both). Also,
beware of vehicles that are equipped as location specific. For example,
some vehicles from sunny locations have tinted windows that might require
much effort to lighten up for a less sunny driving environment.
If you are going to chose a location to buy a vehicle other than near your
home, choose what will indeed work best for you. This can take some
planning, however, by keeping the information provided above in mind,
you will make a much more informed vehicle buying decision.
Here's to your best driving!
