Ghost Vs Vampire: Which Halloween Monster is More Popular Today?

Joe Dorish
Ghosts and vampires are popular monsters in our society today as people love haunted places and the idea of vampires. TV shows, movies, books and videos are filled with ghosts and vampires today and not just during the Halloween season.

True Blood is a TV show about vampires and averaged over 5 million viewers per episode this summer. TV shows about haunted places run throughout the year. Videos with both vampire and ghost themes are being posted on YouTube everyday. But which of these monsters or beings is more popular today?

In previous postings Zombie vs Vampire: Which Being is More Popular Today? and Vampire vs Werewolf: Who is More Popular Today? I compared vampires with werewolves and zombies and both times vampires were more popular but will that also be the case vs ghosts?

Google AdWords Keyword Tool

Ghost - 9.1 million global monthly searches

Vampire - 9.1 million global monthly searches

Google AdWords Keyword Tool tells users how many global monthly searches are being made for any given topic. In this case both ghosts and vampires are being searched for 9.1 million times per month globally. Those are high numbers.

Google Search Engine

Ghost - 103 million results

Vampire - 52.5 million results

By just under a 2 to 1 margin the term ghost produces more from Google than does the name vampire.

Amazon

Ghost - 116,592 results

Vampire - 39,094

Ghosts are far more popular in books as measured by the search results from Amazon as ghost produced 198% more results than did vampire.

YouTube

Ghost - millions of results (means over 1 million results at least)

Vampire - 532,000

On YouTube ghost produces at least 1 million results which is double the amount produced by vampire. Clearly people are posting more videos about ghosts than they are about vampires. Both numbers are high and highly impressive though.

Which is More Popular Ghosts or Vampires?

Going over these results two things become clear. Both ghost and vampire are highly popular on the Internet today but in the end the term ghost is more popular. Though both names produce the same number of global monthly searches the term ghost produces 100% more results on both Google and YouTube and 198% more results on Amazon.

Does this mean people are also more afraid of ghosts than they are vampires? Probably because ghosts might actually be real.

Happy Halloween!

LOL, vampires might also be real, in that there are people who drink blood, maybe not in the "I vant to bite your neck" tradition, but drink it just the same. I am surprised at the results. I would think vampires would be more popular, because it seems every time I turn around someone is talking about the latest vampire whatevers. I prefer ghosts, but can not say I have ever done a 'net search on either.
