Homeplug Review

Recently I encountered a problem with my home wireless network. I live in a quite big house and the one place that my wireless network wouldn't reach to was my room. The situation I found myself in was I could access the internet from everywhere in my house apart from my room. Now for some people this may not be a massive problem, but as a freelance writer I need a quiet place to work and I must have access to the internet. Therefore someway, somehow I must find a solution to my problem.

My first thought was to contact my Internet Service Provider and see if they could help, but the only thing they could suggest was to have the connection wired. This obviously was an option, but far from ideal especially if it involved running wires all over the house. The next thought I had was Mobile Broadband, but that seemed a bit ridiculous bearing in mind I thought I was already paying for broadband. One other option was to buy a more powerful Router, but due to the structure of the house I couldn't be sure that would work.

Anyway I was surfing the net and I came across the Homeplug. I wasn't sure if this would be the answer, but I certainly thought it was worth further investigation. My next move was to go down to my nearest PC World and quiz the sales staff on what exactly a Homeplug is. Therefore I explained the difficulty to the sales person and was informed the Homeplug is intended for exactly what I wanted it for, so I was naturally delighted. To keep the cost down I elected for the wired version.

For anyone that doesn't know the Homeplug is an extremely clever device that uses your household's electrical wiring to extend your wireless network. Basically you get two plugs one goes into a spare electic socket near your router and an Ethernet cable is attached to it from your Router. Then quite simply the other plug is put at a place you need the connection and a cable is run from the Homeplug to your computer, which then connects to your Router. This in effect results in extending your wireless network. Now a wireless version is also available where the send plug has an aerial that projects the wireless signal.

This is a very clever device and certainly saved a lot of headaches for me. So if you have problems with your wireless signal the Homeplug is worth considering. I would highly recommend it. Also additionally Homeplugs can be plugged in wherever the signal is required. Of course it is a one off payment with no subscriptions on further payments.
