Have you ever thought about making funky and unusual lamps for extra money? Lamps are a key element in any room and most of the time the lamp helps to elevate a room from being just a simple room to the extraordinary room.

One big trend is toward the dramatic use of lamps in home decor. The key to success in this very unusual manufacturing business is to ensure you create really unique lampshades, not only in appearance and design but also in your choice of raw materials used in the construction.

The idea of making lamps is a simple task. If you are creative and can visualize, then you will surely succeed. You need some basic electrical skills which is actually quite easy to learn. Next you would have to come up with an interesting theme based on whatever you are using as a base, and extend that theme to the lampshade.

For instance, a very old milk bottle could be used along with a lampshade with a cutout of cows lining the edge. It really depends on what you have available. If you don't have what you need you might try local or national charities because they have a wide selection of objects that you could use. For example over-size urns, pottery planters, and ginger jars make interesting lamps.

For this uncommon kind of business, it would be difficult to advertise in your local newspaper. The best option would be to show people firsthand what you have to offer. Interior decorators or design firms would be interested in your expertise and they could possibly generate a nice income for you and tell others about your business.

To become better known in your area you might consider renting a booth at a local craft show with some of your best sample lamps that would be sure to please the crowd. Tell them about your concept and that you can turn anything into a lamp.

After you have enough success selling unique lamps, you might want to reach out to your local retailers and antique shops that might be interested in your funky and unusual lamps.

Now go ahead and unleash your creativity to the world and make some money while you are at it.
