Bulimics will find themselves feeling guilty and shameful from eating an above average amount of food. Instead of eating one burger for lunch a bulimic might instead eat three in order to satisfy cravings. The bulimic will find him/her self becoming obsessive over the amount of weight that the excess amount of food will cause. Thus it is reasoned to purge of the calories before they are accepted into the bodily system. The use of laxatives abuse for bulimia will cause an intense amount of health complications for the bulimic.
It is actually a falsity that laxatives help someone lose any weight whatsoever. Laxatives will cause stimulation of the nerve ending of your large intestine. Anyone who understands the digestive system knows that the small intestines absorb food and the large intestines only act as a path to excretion. Thus the only weight loss is water weight. This is not fat, so it will not affect your appearance. It will however, cause a large amount of dehydration as well as other problems.
Laxative abuse will cause an electrolyte imbalance that will affect the regular functioning of the nerves and muscles of the body. You will experience muscle pain and spasms. It is not uncommon for people to develop an irregular heartbeat that can result in death.
Laxative abuse will also cause your colon to lose its mucous membrane. The mucous membrane serves many purposes in the body and the loss of it will end up harming many areas of your health. The biggest area affected by the loss of the mucous membrane is the immune system. You will find yourself getting more sick and prone to infection as your immune system shuts down. It is also possible to be the victim of a myriad of digestive problems such as irritable bowl syndrome and bowel tremors because of the laxative abuse.
Laxatives are not a healthy way to control your weight. If you think of using laxatives to control your weight consult a doctor to get on the road to recovery. Laxative abuse for bulimia will only lead to the lost of your health not to a fitter healthier body.
