With the mention of the word "meditation" many people may immediately associate it to Buddhism and think that it is only practised by Buddhists. That is not true. Meditation can be practised by anyone and there are many advantages of meditation.

Meditation can benefit our health, enhance our energy and help us to relax and discover our inner self which will in turn lead to a happier life. Meditation is a method to get in touch with our inner self and provides a way to sort out our thoughts and let us connect and know ourselves better. While meditating, we distance ourselves from the hustle and bustle of the world and enable our thoughts and feelings to be slowed down, therefore allowing us to reach a state whereby we are completely relaxed and at peace. There may be different methods of meditation, but all of them teach us how to direct our focus and attention to connect ourselves with our inner thoughts and desires, thus helping us understand ourselves more and creates a higher self awareness. It will result in a more positive mindset and allow us to be aware of our negative emotions and enable us to control our emotions better.We will also be able to have greater control of our mind and this will help us develop and realise our own talents and abilities. By having a greater focus, we may be able to increase our memory and thus makes learning and absorbing information easier. This will be of great benefits to students as well as adults.

With the competitive and high paced society which we live in, many people are often faced with stress and the stress level may be so high that they may not be able to cope with it, thus leading to common illness like depression. Meditation can help to reduce stress level and studies have shown that people who meditate regularly are often less stressful throughout the day. Besides that, stress can also affect our mind and thoughts. With a high stress level, we may not be able to think clearly and make wise decision. By relaxing our mind, meditation will serve to benefit us by allowing us to focus more clearly and make better judgement. Therefore meditation is a good practice and is very much relevant in our lives especially in the stressful society which we live in today.

Meditation also help us to see things in a new perspective. By sitting down quietly and meditating, we will be able to calm our mind and form our thoughts better to look at things in a different perspective without rushing our thoughts.

Therefore with the benefits arising from meditation, it is a good idea to give it a try in order to improve your spiritual, emotional and psychological well-being.
