Sen.Obama: You Can Put Lipstick on a Pig, but It's Still a Pig!

Mary E. Coe
In one of Sen. Obama's latest speech; he used the phrases: "You can put lipstick on a pig, but, it's still a pig" and "you can wrap an old fish in papers, and call it changes, but it still stinks." or something like that. I was very appalled when I heard the lipstick comment coming from Obama. I first heard about the comment from an add that was approved by Sen. McCain.

Sen. McCain's people immediately put out the add saying, Sen.Obama called Gov. Palin a pig. Many republicans said that Sen. Obama was referring to Gov. Palin with the "lipstick" remark and he was referring to Sen. McCain with the "old fish" remark.

Thank goodness for Google. I goggled "lipstick on a pig" Turned out; It is an old political saying. There's a long list of politicians, including Sen. McCain who
has used this phrase. Sen. McCain used it more than twice.

Sen. McCain's Press Secretary even wrote a book titled "Lip Stick on a Pig." to teach people how to use the phrase.

I"M satisfied that Sen.Obama was not talking about Gov. Palin when he made that comment. It is an old phrase that has been used by many republican politicians. It has been used by McCain, himself, many times.

Great information to clarify certain misleading ads!

I'm not crazy about Obama, but I doubt seriously that he meant it as a direct hit on Palin. He's not a dumb man and that would create too much anger among voters.

If you want to know the truth about McCain, Obama and Biden, visit Congress.org and visit the Thomas Library of Congress at thomas.loc.gov. Votes don't lie! If you want to know the truth about Sarah Palin, visit the official web site of the state of Alaska at www.state.ak.us.

I read about this. Seems Senator McCain made that comment about Senator Clinton. If I heard the speech by Obama it would not have appalled me, nor would I think he was speaking about Governor Palin. He is quite a gentleman. Because he has manners people criticize him. Say he is a wimp who will not fight back. I like his style. McCain, like Clinton knows false and misleading campaign ads stay in people's minds. That is why they are trying to make it look like Obama was referring to Palin.

Awesome job on clarifying that. I truly had no respect for Obama after hearing that he called her that... well now, that makes a lot of sense. How awful for Mccain to trick others into thinking otherwise.
