Whale Dreaming and Whaledreamers

The day after I got was struck by lightning twice in one afternoon (right click here to read my story about that) I was to be introduced to an Indigenous Elder and Guardian who was going to take me out 'bush',My life was about to be transformed and changed like an earthquake registering a 9 on the Richter Scale.

As we proceeded to our destination on the following day I saw something I had never before witnessed. As she instructed me to turn left at the eleven thousandth unmarked tree to apparently drive and head straight into the deep bush that looked to me to have no distinguishing features to indicate tracks or roads etc my eyes were really opened. As soon as we turned to head into the desert she 'sang' a very soft little chant and I saw an athletic and fit young full-blood ancestral messenger spirit run ahead to 'inform' the land Guardians of our visit.

When we stopped the car she got out and then sang and danced to simultaneously both inform and ask the spirits our intentions. She personally introduced me to them.Prior to this event I had long been a tree hugging hippy. But this occasion was very different. Though I had hugged a few trees never before had I seen them respond so forcefully. This moment convinced me of the Earth's necessity to be 'sung and danced' in the way of the Indigenous Ancestors.

This woman was my 'boss woman' and initiated and passed to me many paintings and 'dreaming' responsibilities before she died.On the anniversary of her death she woke me up just before the 7am news and turned the radio on for me. The station played her favorite song. I drove to work thinking she was a pretty powerful spirit who could influence radio announcers.

Yesterday that same song came to my ears via my CD player in my car and once again I saw her spirit sitting in my front passenger seat. As is always the case when spirits visit me I do not immediately question their intention for their visit as 'gwada'* delivers any answers I need soon enough.

This morning I awoke to hear about a recently released movie called "Whale Dreaming" whose story apparently centers on an adjacent Nullabor Desert tribe who share common land and boundaries. My boss woman was from the Njardu and Mirning Nullabor tribe. One of the paintings she 'gave' and put inside me before she died was a Whale and Seal Dreaming story. What's coming next I am currently wondering; and I'm sure it involves more 'work'.

Keep posted. And PS - a friend who had just read my article about lightning rang me to suggest that perhaps we should not go out anywhere together today as the weather is stormy and he doesn't fancy increasing his odds of being struck by lightning. This brought to mind an important point; that being that I only am struck by lightning when I am alone. So do not worry if I invite you out somewhere in stormy weather.
