Where Eagles Dare - Movie Review

My favorite 1968 war movie "Where Eagles Dare" is considered to be one of the Classic war movies of all times. Two great heroes Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood in their best made the movie more thrilling and entertaining. Both very cool in their approach and in dialog delivery. Alistair MacLean's screenplay and action thriller made waves in 1968 and stole the hearts of millions of viewers all over the world.

Movie reviews - Where Eagles Dare (Main Plot)
MI6 sending its one of the top operative Major Smith (Richard Burton) with his team along with Lieutenant Shaffer (Clint Eastwood) to rescue US Army Brigadier General George Carnaby to Schloß Adler the Castle of the Eagles, based on this the title of the story is derived. The fortress lies high up on Alps, is the headquarters of German Secret Service.

To rescue General Carnaby before the Germans can interrogate him British Commandos were parachuted near Schloß Adler and the whole operation was monitored and briefed by Colonel Wyatt Turner and Admiral Rolland of MI6.

The moments later the team landed their telephone operative is found dead, which was marked by Major Smith. As the story proceeds another member is also found dead. Major and Lieutenant Shaffer are caught by Germans after traitors in his team leaked about their identity.

Major Smith & Lieutenant Shaffer manage to escape on their route by killing the Germans and then managed to create panic and disturbance. Both of them make their entry to the Castle by sitting the roof of the cable car.

After killing the Pilot of the helicopter, the duo enters the hall where the General George Carnaby was being interrogated by Germans. Thomas, Berkeley, and Christiansen, taken for questioning, declare their true German identity, revealing themselves as double agents. The German officers in charge of the interrogation of Carnaby, Gen. Rosemeyer and Col. Kramer sits and drinks with them.

Major Smith enters the hall on gun point and make confusion to Germans that he is the real agent and has the real and the main list of agents working in Britain. He makes Thomas, Berkeley, and Christiansen to given the entire list of agents in order to prove themselves. Smith writes a name on another piece of paper, shown only to Kramer - the name of the top German agent in Britain. Smith is guessing, but Kramer nods his agreement, waiting to see if the "exposed British agents" can come up with equal proof of their German identity. The main aim of Major Smith was to have the total list of agents working in Britain and expose the mater mind.

As the story progress the duo after killing the Germans try to escape from castle by the same cable car after a battle with Berkeley, and Christiansen. Smith, Schaffer, Mary, Heidi and Jones make their escape by a bus to near by airfield after a hot pursuit by Germans. In the Airfield as RAF plane waits for them along with Colonel Turner. Under gunfire, the party boards the plane and escapes into the sky.

Movie reviews - Where Eagles Dare (Final scene)
Main twist of the story is unveiled by Major Smith by exposing the Colonel Turner, who in order to escape court martial jumps from the Plane. And the story comes to end with a joke by Lieutenant Shaffer (Clint Eastwood) to keep the next operation all British.
