Tim's Oscar Reaction

Tim O'Brien
Scope it, as in Horoscope: Do not wait for others to act on something you like. It may be too late. No, it will be too late.

Bonehead Tip of the Day: Let others do your thinking for you. Life is easier and you have no one else to blame.

"The King's Speech" with 12, "True Grit" nabs 10.

Animation film that is the highest grosser of last year, "Toy Story 3" is in here and animation. A little history. My top film of the year is "Winter's Bone" and in an upset is here as well. Jennifer Lawrence also gets in for actress in the same film.
Oscar Best Picture Nominations:
"Black Swan"
"The Fighter"
"Inception"
"The Kids Are All Right""
"The King's Speech
"127 Hours"
"The Social Network"
"Toy Story 3"
"True Grit"
"Winter's Bone"

The List: Oscar for Best Director
Darren Aronofsky for "Black Swan";
David Fincher for "The Social Network";
Tom Hooper for "The King's Speech";
Joel and Ethan Coen for "True Grit"
David O. Russell for "The Fighter"
Director's Guild of America: The nominees include: Darren Aronofsky for "Black Swan"; David Fincher for "The Social Network"; Tom Hooper for "The King's Speech"; Christopher Nolan for "Inception"; and David O. Russell for "The Fighter."
Notes: There is a reason I put this category in here. Most, if not all of the stories today will be focused on Best Picture and the rest of the top acting awards. Not me. This category is the key. Why? take a look at the five nominated here and you will have the top five in the running for Best Picture. It would be more rare than a blue moon if a Best Picture went to a film in which its director was not nominated.So, take the five in this category and compare them to the Best Picture category. Now, omit the five without a nod. There you have it - - the contenders for Best Picture, the others are just eye candy and feel good stuff. And that is good, too. Oh, by the way, the Producer's Guild of America awarded their top prize to "The King's Speech."

Trivia: Alfred Hitchcock never won an Oscar for Best Director. Kathyrn Bigelow was the first female to win Best Director, last year, for "The Hurt Locker."

Closer: This will be my 14th year in a row for Red Carpet fun at the Oscars.
