Julia Bodeeb
A fraternity party at a house off campus near Seton Hall University in East Orange, New Jersey turned deadly last night. At about midnight a young man who had been earlier told he could not join the party returned and opened fire on the crowd, notes the NY Post.

The shooting occurred in a rental apartment in a home on South Clinton Street. This location is only about a half mile from the Seton Hall University campus.

In total, three female and two males were shot at the party. Some of the people shot are students at Seton Hall University and also at New Jersey Institute of Technology.

A recent graduate of Seton Hall who was at the party at the time of the shooting told NJ.com that chaos erupted. "The whole crowd was like a stampede. Girls were being trampled on... People were jumping out of windows. Everyone was just petrified."

$10,000 Reward: Call Police with Information about the Shooter

If you have any information about the shooter, notify the anonymous crime hotline at 973- 266- 5041 or call the Essex County Crime Stopper hotline at 973 - 877- TIPS. Do the right thing. Description of the Shooter at Seton Hall Party

The shooter is still on the loose. He is in his mid twenties. He is African American, has a beard, and has a height of about 5'11 to 6'2 and a heavy build.

Gun Violence

Gun violence is always tragic. It is never more so than when it results in murder of a young person. Jessica Moore had her whole life in front of her. Now she is gone. Her parents are surely experiencing unimaginable pain at this unexpected loss.

Too many people are getting murdered with guns in America. Many of them are just kids or young adults. Where will it stop? What is it in our society that leads someone to think they can just shoot up a party?

College parties are supposed to be fun. It is a shame that gun violence is so out of control in our society that even a party can end up a crime scene.

RIP to Jessica Moore. And best wishes to the other people who were shot at the party for a quick recovery.

Sad. I can't believe fraternities are still operating.

Bad news coming from an increasingly obvious bad idea... fraternities. (Well written, I must say!)

If it wasn't guns it would be other weapons. Very sad and I'm sending this to my niece who is in college.

This is horrible! However, I think even if we take guns away from most civilians, criminals will still get them. There's got to be a happy medium (altho' happy isnt' the word to use on this tragic article.) Good report.

    So tragic.

Kids are desensitized to violence at a very early age via television and movies. I believe that has a lot to do with the escalation of violence in schools and colleges. This is a terrible thing.

    sad to hear

What an awful thing. Those poor parents.

  • Michele Starkey9/25/2010

First I've heard of this also, I was volunteering today and away from the news. It's not just guns, Julia - local gangs are now using plain old baseball bats to attack and kill other kids. Just pure and simple senseless violence. cheers
