10 1/2 Simple Ways to be a Stylish, Well-dressed Man

1: Rock the "high-low". Mix a high-priced pair of pants with a low-priced shirt, for example, or vice-versa. My best looks come from mixing a black Armani t-shirt with a pair of boot-cut Target khakis, or True Religion jeans with a Target shirt, or dark Armani jeans with a black Tapout/Dirtbag shirt. You can also apply this to under and overshirts (IE. a cheap shirt with an expensive jacket)

1 1/2: If you're going to spend a lot of money somewhere, MAKE SURE IT'S ON YOUR JEANS. A great pair of well fitted jeans can make a man look stylish even if he's screwing up everything else. And by great, I don't mean loose and showing your underwear. They should be well-cut, well-fitted, well-designed, stylish-looking, and have just a bit of flair to them. I highly recommend Armani Exchange, Express, and True Religion. Even their looser-fitting jeans are far more stylish and flattering for a man's appearance than your average cheap jeans.

2: Style can be had for a low price. Stores like Target, Burlington Coat Factory, Nordstrom Rack and Ross can make you look good at reasonable prices. And if you really wanna go cheap, hit the thrift stores. You never know what you might find.

3: Don't have your entire wardrobe be something that comes from one store, and one store only. Mix it up.

4: With some exceptions, don't even let one outfit that you wear all come from one brand, unless it really doesn't matter (E.G. you're at work and your job is a physical one). Mix it up.

5: White socks never look good. Period. Neither do jeans shorts. Neither do pleated pants.

6: Don't ever rule something completely out until you try it on. It might look stupid on the rack, but it might look a whole lot less stupid on your body. Unless, of course, it's white socks, jeans shorts or pleated pants.

7: Just because it's designer doesn't mean it looks good on you. Don't risk looking too boyish or effeminate by overdoing it on certain designer goods. Mixing it up prevents this, and enables a stylish look while still looking like a man.

8: Knowing how to match really isn't that hard. Mix lighter shirts with lighter jeans, and darker shirts with darker jeans. If you are wearing khakis, then for the most part, wear black or white shirts.

9: Make sure that your clothes fit you correctly. If it's too loose, it looks ridiculous. If it's too tight, it looks ridiculous. Your fit will depend on your body type as well.

10: Rules are made to be broken. However, even though that's true, don't go breaking these rules until you know how to do it effectively.

ADDENDUM: When you go into any clothing store, ask a female employee to find clothing for you that might look good on you. Women love to play dress-up, and usually, they know what will look good on you, especially when you try on what they suggest.
