10 Activities to Enjoy in San Antonio, Texas This Summer

Lori Piper
San Antonio has the World Champions SPURS! However, this wonderful city has additional activities to enjoy. The Riverwalk can be enjoyed by the entire family. San Antonio has so much to offer, come visit and see for yourself. Below I have listed ten, just ten, exciting places to go in and around this great city.

Ten activities to enjoy in San Antonio this summer #1)

Fiesta Texas! Purchase a family season pass and enjoy! Kids can return repeatedly. Not only is it fun, imagine the health benefits from all the walking and just being outside! Do not forget the sunscreen. The water park can be an all day adventure, as can the rides themselves can be. This is an amusement park that becomes more fun the more you go visit.

Ten activities to enjoy in San Antonio this summer #2)

Sea World! The Journey to Atlantis ride is now operational. Season passes or day tickets are worth the price of admission with all the fun this theme park can offer. Sea World has some wonderful summer camps as well. My children attended summer camp a few years back and they had an enjoyable time.

Ten activities to enjoy in San Antonio this summer #3)

Schlitterbahn! Alright, technically it is located in New Braunfels-but that is only a twenty or so minute drive from San Antonio. Water rides! All day fun and free parking! Wanting a water park closer? Splashtown is off Interstate 35 North just past downtown. Moreover, this park offers movie nights! Or you can just go tubing off the Guadalupe River or out at Canyon Lake.

Ten activities to enjoy in San Antonio this summer #4)

The San Antonio Missions. Take me out to the ball game! Missions' games are a blast! Come on out and show your support! Prices are cheap for baseball game tickets (around ten dollars for good seats). What better way to spend a summer evening, than a baseball game with the family!

Ten activities to enjoy in San Antonio this summer #5)

The Alamo! Come on, one can never tire of seeing history! Take the kids for another tour! On the other hand, come take the tour for the first time. I still become emotional taking the children to view this piece of history.

Ten activities to enjoy in San Antonio this summer #6)

The San Antonio Zoo! Passes are worth it, as children love the zoo. Educate both yourself and your children with a trip to the zoo. Summer camps are also available for the Zoo. If it becomes to hot, cool off in the reptile exhibit!

Ten activities to enjoy in San Antonio this summer #7)

Free movies! Several theaters are offering free movies on Tuesday and Wednesdays morning. Get out of the Texas heat and enjoy a family movie.

Ten activities to enjoy in San Antonio this summer #8)

San Antonio Children's Museum! An all day outing in an air-conditioned building. The Witte Museum is another educational and fun place to visit.

Ten activities to enjoy in San Antonio this summer #9)

The Tower of the Americas. Enjoy walking (ha ha) or riding the elevator to the top of this 750 foot structure. Enjoy looking through the telescope to see what each child can identify. At ground level there is a Skies over Texas theme ride in 4-D!

Ten activities to enjoy in San Antonio this summer #10)

Brackenridge Park! Ride the carousel or take a train ride around the park. Bring a picnic lunch and play a game a softball. Walk across the street and visit the Japanese Tea Gardens. San Antonio also has a great Summer Soccer League.

These are just ten! There are many many more fun activities for family enjoyment.

How about watching the mexican free tail bats fly out from under the Congress Street/Avenue bridge on a summer night?!?! That is one of my most favorite things to do there!

San Antonio and the Texas Hill Country are my favorite part of the whole state of Texas - lived in DFW 16+ years and saw most of the state - couldn't get too much of SA!
