10 Authors Who Should Revamp Their Career with a New Book Series

Authors Who Should Revisit the Series Model

Ashley Mott
There are many authors who have become synonymous with a series of books. Some of these authors have forever altered literary standards in their chosen genres while others have maintained a steady if not trendy following from the first book to the last book. If there is any great consolation when a good book series ends, it is that the author is now free to pursue other stories and perhaps craft another series.

J.K. Rowling

Wouldn't it be wonderful to see the mind that created Harry Potter, Hogwarts, and Voldemort focus on bringing another series to life? Whether the new series was written within the Potter universe or another plane altogether, it would surely be fantastic.

Stephenie Meyer

Stephenie Meyer has already stepped outside the Twilight sphere she is most famous for with an adult book titled The Host. She has also written books that supplement the Twilight series without expounding on the arc that was ended in Breaking Dawn. It would be interesting to see what additional type of series Stephenie Meyer could create, especially now that her life experience and instant celebrity have impacted her life.

Francine Pascal

Rumor has it that Francine Pascal, creator of the noted Sweet Valley High books, is going to actually be authoring a follow-up volume to the series. While it is unlikely that Pascal would ever actually write an entire series herself, it would be wonderful if her Sweet Valley Confidential spin-off could turn into a series in and of itself.

Carolyn Keene

Carolyn Keene was actually a pen name assumed by a variety of writers under the Nancy Drew book heading. It would be a great treat to see the pen name adopted again and to have the Nancy Drew character emerged in a totally new series outside of the original mysteries and the later Nancy Drew Case Files.

Jacqueline Winspear

Jacqueline Winspear is the current author of the popular Maisie Dobbs historical fiction detective stories. These volumes are set in the gap between World War I and World War II in England - a time when a country was trying desperately to put itself back together after one painful, massive tragedy before being engulfed in another. Jacqueline Winspear has a definite talent for crafting wonderful and emotional invested books, and it would be interesting to see that developed in a series outside of her detective stories.

Ann M. Martin

Ann M. Martin's Baby-Sitters Club books have recently been revamped to better fit modern stories, and a new book set before the Baby-Sitters Club, The Summer Before, was released on April 1st, 2010. Ann herself stated on Scholastic.com that she considered what the girls would be like in high school or grown-up with families of their own. For fans of the now classic series who are grown, such a trip down memory lane with a new series would be wonderful for personal reading and for sharing with daughters and nieces.

Debbie MacComber

Debbie MacComber's Blossom Street series as well as numerous other trilogy and beyond series books she has written have been lovely adventures with a light Christian element spread throughout the pages. It would be wonderful to see Debbie break out from the more crafty and homespun themes and rotate a book series around a different type of career while maintaining her natural charm.

Sarah Strohmeyer

Strohmeyer has written a few exceedingly solid single releases since the creation of her series based around the beauty shop detective Bubbles. Sarah has proven that she has the propensity to create a series and the talent to write better books. To see her combine the two for one stellar series would be a feat! Bubbles was okay, but the single releases were better, so it is time to revisit the series model with a well-developed story.

Janette Oke

Janette Oke and Beverly Lewis seemingly owned the genre of Christian Fiction for a generation, and Janette Oke books such as Love Come Softly have had very good film adaptations released in recent years. A new Janette Oke series would be a welcome addition to her huge library of books.

Mary Higgins Clark

Mary Higgins Clark is not noted as a series author despite the fact that she has reoccurring characters in a few of her books. One of the most interesting books Mary Higgins Clark has ever released was titled Mount Vernon Love Story which was a dramatized historical account of the marriage of George and Martha Washington. If Mary Higgins Clark would release a mini-series of similar volumes, it would elevate her past the level of standard mystery author.

All ten of these authors would be well-suited to crafting another superb series of books for eager fans.

I have not read most of those authors, but your reasoning applies to some I know, not on your list. An adult Nancy Drew mystery series would be cool also.
