Yoga is an exercise of both the mind and body. It is an intense test of strength of both physical flexibility and mental agility. Yoga does not involve simply mastering moves but also tapping into the positive energy within the mind to free the body of its restraints. Yoga is something that takes commitment to progressively master its powerful movements. Yoga can also produce many benefits including better posture which can also lead to improvement in other exercises that an individual may be involved in.
The following are ten additional benefits of yoga.
- Relaxation- Yoga involves mental practices of relaxation in which a person must not let the stresses of life create an unnecessary level of tension within the body. A person must truly allow their body and mind to be free in yoga for it to become a powerful euphoric experience.
- Flexibility- As a person becomes acclimated with yoga moves he or she will become better able to bend and rotate their body in ways that are sometimes very awkward. Flexibility is achievable when a person doesn't allow fear to tell them what the body can't do based on previous experiences.
- Strength- A person who practices yoga over an extended period of time will notice the ability to hold poses longer. The person also notices upper and lower body strength becoming stronger in other exercises as well. The biggest testament of strength will be the mind and body being in sync to take full advantage of the yoga experience.
- Meditation- Yoga allows a person to become one while meditating on its affect on the body. Private studios or in the privacy of someone's home can be ideal for practicing yoga. There is usually soft music playing and or some mild fragrance in the air. There is usually no loud noises or big distractions this can allow a person to evaluate their thoughts in a meditative and non threatening manner.
- Massaging all areas of the Body- The entire human body can feel awakened during a yoga experience. The yoga practice includes various breathing exercises and techniques designed to create a massage effect to internal glands and organs in the body.
- Toning of the muscles- Muscles that are sluggish and weak can become alert during a yoga experience.
- Detoxification- Awakening the mind and exercising of the muscles can release unhealthy toxins in a person's body.
- Heightened Awareness of Self- The yoga experience allows a person to become one with their inner self which improves the body's relaxed movement during the practice of yoga.
- Discipline- Yoga allows a person to gain a new sense of discipline in focusing the mind on relaxation in order to evolve in the practice of yoga.
- Energy boost- A person who begins to enjoy and look forward to practicing yoga will notice it provides a healthy source of an energy boost. A person who feels good in the mind, body and soul is more likely to become happier about their self image.
