Mother's Day is a wonderful opportunity for families to honor their moms. Most mothers often feel as if their busy lives go unappreciated and it can be nice to sit back, relax, and let others take care of them for a change.

It is also a time when moms receive gifts from the family as a token of their appreciation. Here are some budget friendly gift ideas that will make any mother happy.

1. Fresh Flowers

Flowers are the ultimate gift but they can get expensive. Instead of buying a pricey bouquet, it is perfectly acceptable to hand pick them. Place them in a pretty vase and leave them buy the bed in the morning.

2. Make a Card

Instead of buying a card, why not make it? Handmade cards come from the heart - something moms really appreciate. Use supplies that can be found around the house such as construction paper, photographs, glue and markers.

3. Give Coupons

This is a classic idea that is also from the heart. Create coupons with tasks such as "thirty minutes of peace and quiet" or "one homemade dinner." You can also include chores on them that she usually does such as "wash dishes" or "clean toilets". She can redeem the coupons at any time.

4. Family Portrait

Another inexpensive gift idea is the family portrait. Enlist a family friend to take a picture with your camera of the entire family. Print it out or have it printed, put it in a nice frame, and gift it to mom for Mother's Day.

5. Bake Her Favorite Cookies

Make mom's favorite cookies and bake them for Mother's Day. Place them in a pretty box, wrap them in nice paper, and include a homemade card with it. This is much cheaper then buying bakery cookies.

6. Make it with Clay

Clay is an inexpensive craft item. Purchase the clay that can be air dried and have the family work them into special shapes, such as hearts and flowers, for mom. Paint them in pretty colors after they are dry.

7. Hit the Dollar Store

Believe it or not, there can be some great gift ideas at the dollar store. Purchase picture frames and frame them with family pictures. Buy small vases and pick some spring flowers outside. The ideas are endless.

8. Do Chores for the Day

Make Mother's Day special by spending the day doing chores. To make it even more special, spend the day doing heavy chores such as yard work and spring cleaning. So what's the catch? Mom can't help.

9. Go Out to Dinner

Local restaurants often offer Mother's Day specials and discounts. Set a budget and pick the restaurant that falls within that budget. To save even more money don't order beverages and eat dessert at home.

10. Have a Picnic

If the day is nice, why not pack up a nice picnic lunch and go somewhere nice for the day. How about a picnic at the beach or at your favorite park?

Saving money on your Mother's Day gifts doesn't mean you don't care. In fact, these inexpensive options are meaningful and from the heart which is the most important thing.
