10 Best Fashion Apps

Style in the Palm of Your Hand

Jillian McCoy
You've got the It bag and the latest smartphone, but are your apps stylish? Fashion blogs, magazines and design houses such as Chanel and Gucci all offer iPhone apps to stay up-to-the-minute with their brands. There's also a range of fashion-centric apps produced independently. Keeping your finger on fashion's fickle pulse has never been so easy. If you're a tech-savvy fashionista, these are some of the best fashion apps to get your hands on.

Best Fashion Apps

Stylebook

Save your clothing and accessories in a virtual closet. Take photos of your clothing and Stylebook will fashion them into silhouettes, letting you create and visualize outfits from various pieces. Connect outfits with the built-in calendar to remember what you wore on a particular day, and save inspiration sets as a guideline for your next trip to the mall.

Glamour Ask A Stylist

Who says you need to be a celebrity to have a personal stylist? This app, created by Glamour Magazine, puts free style advice in your pocket. Take a photo and ask for fashion advice, and get a response from a live style expert in minutes. The latest edition of this fashion app also allows you to share your questions publicly, getting responses from fellow fashion junkies in the Ask A Stylist community.

Best Fashion Apps

Stylish Girl

Stylish Girl is the app where your closet and shopping meet. Upload photos of your wardrobe, see them next to items available for purchase, and more. This app allows you to take notes, crib celebrity styles, check out what's on the runway, and get fashion tips. This app is more of a jack-of-all-trades than most of the others on this list, but has no one outstanding feature.

Best Fashion Apps

Style.com

Love following Fashion Week? This is the app for you! Style.com's iPhone app shows the latest in ready-to-wear and couture as it comes down the runway, as well as the parties and photos that surround the shows. This app also includes a "Look of the Day," and provides access to Style.com's Style File blog.

Best Fashion Apps

Chicfeed

If you frequently browse popular fashion websites like Lookbook and The Sartorialist, you'll love Chicfeed. This app shows fashionable photos from multiple blogs in one place, giving you a cohesive look at what's hot. All that's missing from this app is a way to bookmark your favorite looks - but as Chicfeed is only in version 1.2 as of this writing, the ability to bookmark photos may be in the works.

Best Fashion Apps

iStylistMakeover

If you love the online makeovers at sites like iVillage, you'll love iStylistMakeover. This app lets you try on hairstyles, sunglasses and other accessories to test out a new look - just upload a photo and start experimenting! Show your favorite hairstyle to your stylist next time you visit the salon, to give a visual idea of the look you want without scouring the magazines in the lobby.

Best Fashion Apps

Love It or Lose It

Recruit the opinions of friends - and strangers - to see what looks good together, and what looks good on you. This fashion app lets you share up to three photos at a time, allowing you to compare outfits or solicit opinions on potential purchases. Save a custom wish list to remember where you found that cute sweater you didn't buy. Use the friends list to see their photo streams and return the fashion advice favor.

Best Fashion Apps

StyleCaster

Do you wake up extra early to get the local weather report? Hit the snooze! The StyleCaster app helps you decide what to wear based on local weather data. Includes daily looks shown on models instead of showing outfits as individual pieces, and the ability to shop directly from the look. Also includes fashion news and videos, helping you start your day in style.

Best Fashion Apps

TouchCloset

Have you ever been out shopping and wished you could compare something in your closet to what you were browsing for? Say hello to TouchCloset, which lets you keep your entire wardrobe (including accessories, bags and shoes) in the palm of your hand. This ingenious little app not only helps catalog and categorize your entire closet, it also remembers when you last wore an item. You can also mix and match items saved to your closet into outfits, eliminating the need to empty your real closet onto your bed every time you need to choose an outfit.

Best Fashion Apps

Fashion Sense

From skinny mirrors to simple vanity, it's hard to get an accurate picture of how clothing looks on you in the store. Especially when you shop alone, it's easy to come home with something that looks awful. Eliminate time-consuming returns with the Fashion Sense app, that helps you shop based on your shape. Discover the styles that flatter you, and - more importantly - which ones don't.
