10 Best Futuristic Action Movies

BLU
I am a big fan of philosophy and my philosophy judging a movie are 1. the movie should keep you entertained and 2 it should make you think. These factors are especially important when it comes to futuristic action movies. This genre has many factors that it could be judged on. My vote lies with the futuristic action movie that has a story compelling enough to think deeply about the future and has enough action to make it not feel like a philosophy class. That being said, I present the 10 Best Futuristic Action Movies.
  1. Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

In the future John Connor saves the world from Judgment Day, the day when the machines man created to serve them began to see the humans as a threat and waged world war on them. A machine called The Terminator was sent back in time to kill John before he was born by killing his mother in the past. When this failed another Terminator was sent back to kill John as a 13 year old child. In the future John Connor sent a Terminator of his own (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to protect himself. It is simply a matter of seeing which of these mechanical titans will win.

This is my favorite movie of all time. This movie was packed with creative and Awesome special effects, explosive fighting scenes, and creative story. There are four movies in this saga as well as a television series all of which deserve some level of praise for their development of the storyline but Terminator 2: Judgment Day is by far the best futuristic action movie of all time.

  2. The Matrix (1999)

Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) is a computer hacker that one day discovers that the world he thought he knew is all a computerized dreamworld created by machines to enslave humans. The real world is made up of human refugees and the machines trying to destroy them. As Neo (as he is called) shifts back and forth between the two worlds he finds that he must learn to become the savior of both.

The Matrix is one of the most unique and creative films of all time. This movie has it all. Unbelievable fighting sequences, out-of-this world shootouts, amazing stunts and revolutionary special effects keep you wanting more. Fortunately this is the first in a trilogy. Check out the Matrix: Reloaded and The Matrix: Revolutions. In addition the AniMatrix brings the world of The Matrix into the realm of Animation which gives even more freedom and diversity to the Matrix saga.

  3. Minority report (2002)

In the future, life has become safe again, murder can be predicted and criminals can be arrested before they commit crimes. John Anderton(Tom Cruise) is the lead detective on these "Pre-Cog" cases until he is arrested for a crime he didn't commit (or wouldn't commit). The once secured and clear future become hazy as he tried to solve a murder case that has not been committed. Anderton finds himself as a fugitive from the law and his worst fears.

This is one of the ultimate futuristic action films. It takes an advanced futuristic approach with everything from the weaponry and transportation to the personalized ads that read retinal scans in the mall. The action is a constant thrill and the concept is beyond unique.

  4. Total Recall (1990)

Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Douglas Quaid, a man who starts off wanting to go on a virtual vacation to Mars through a computer implant. His vacation is cut short as his fantasy is twisted into his reality and he finds himself in a fight for his life against the evil company trying to capitalize on the destroyed lives that inhabit the red planet.

Non-stop action from beginning to end, futuristic weapons, incredible aliens, mind-blowing special effects and Arnold Schwarzenegger, need I say more!!! This movie is a must-see for anyone looking for a great futuristic action movie.

  5. Blade Runner (1982)

In a futuristic punk rock version of L.A. the ability to clone people has created terrifying side effects. Police officers known as Blade Runners maintain order in this twisted world of clones and humans. After a clone mutiny the clones are sent on a space ship to be destroyed. Harrison Ford plays Deckard a retired Blade Runner who is forced back into action when lawless clones hijack a ship and head back to destroy earth.

The stylized cyberpunk future twisted with a shocking and thought-provoking story sets the perfect stage for unbelievable shootouts and amazing stunts and chases. Blade Runner will keep you on the edge of your seat and questioning your humanity.

  6. Judge Dredd (1995)

In the lawless and corrupted future known as Cursed Earth, a special force of soldiers become judge, jury, and executioner, known as Judges. The greatest of all is Judge Dredd played by Sylvester Stallone, who is now faced with an evil clone as bent on world destruction as Dredd is on justice.

This film is an awesome good versus evil, futuristic shoot'em up action thriller. The special effects alone, make the movie worth watching. With Stallone delivering the action and Rob Schneider as comic relief this movie peaks as one of the all-time great futuristic action comedies.

  7. The Fifth Element (1997)

Bruce Willis plays Korben Dallas, a retired soldier turned cab driver who stumbles upon the universes only hope against evil, Leeloo, the elemental balance to the universes survival.

This movie takes place about 300 years into the future. This future is filled with unique aliens, stellar special effects, and impossible stunts that only Bruce Willis could make believable. The comedy and action combo create what could be considered a Die Hard of the future.

  8. V for Vendetta (2005)

In a future where freedom no longer exists, one woman finds herself between the "safe" yet corrupted futuristic Britain and a man destined to tear down the walls of injustice that his government has built.

Based on the amazing graphic novel, V for Vendetta, delivers an action-packed fight for freedom and race against time film. The explosive action will leave you amazed and the story will leave you in deep-thought. This is a movie you will want to watch again right after the credits.

  9. Pitch Black (2000)

When a group of a dozen people find themselves marooned on a planet with three suns, no food or supplies, and a murderous criminal bent on killing them all, things were just starting to get bad. Just as survival seemed impossible, they find themselves on the planet at the time of a triple eclipse when the whole planet gets dark and the underground inhabitants, man-eating reptilian-like vampires creatures surface. They must now place their hope in the only one who has survived such an ordeal, the deadly outlaw, Riddick.

This is the first of the three in the Chronicles of Riddick Series. The creativity of the storyline, the amazing special effects, and the off-the-wall action scenes keep you stunned throughout the movie. This movie shows Vin Diesel at his best and gets you hooked for the next chapter.

  10. Equilibrium (2002)

In this version of the future, all forms of feeling and creativity are outlawed to preserve peace and safety. One of the establishment's greatest enforcers discovers something that will change his life and the world he lives in. He now is forced to battle against the government he once heroically fought for.

This film puts a great spin on the future where equality is not longer a right but the law. Christian Bale delivers a great non-emotional lead (I know its not a surprise but in this movie it is a necessity) as a head Cleric, a super soldier trained to enforce the anti-feelings laws . The intense hand-to-hand combat sequences and unique and mysterious "gun kata" battles make this film one of the most creative and action packed futuristic action movies of all time.
