Best Summer Romantic Comedies - May Release Date
Something Borrowed - Kate Hudson often gets the guy in the romantic comedies that she stars in, but it looks like she just might lose him this time. In "Something Borrowed," she plays an overbearing bride-to-be whose fiancé (Colin Egglesfield) ends up in bed with her best friend (Ginnifer Goodwin) before the wedding. But don't judge Ginnifer's character too harshly -- the trailer shows that she was in love with her pal's groom-to-be before he got stolen away. John Krasinski also stars as a friend of the girls with a secret of his own. Wedding movie fans won't want to miss this one on May 6.
Midnight in Paris - Woody Allen's latest has Owen Wilson stepping in to play a neurotic, socially awkward character (obviously based on himself). He is visiting the romantic city of Paris with his fiancée (Rachel McAdams), but the lovebirds don't spend all their time seeing the sights alone together -- much to her groom-to-be's disdain, McAdams' character befriends a pompous intellectual (Michael Sheen). Since he doesn't get along with his bride-to-be's new pal, the two begin to grow apart as he discovers the excitement of Paris after dark. The all-star cast (a staple for an Allen film) also includes Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody, Marion Cotillard, and Carla Bruni. See if Woody can capture some of his old romantic movie magic after midnight on May 20.
Best Summer Romantic Comedies - July Release Date
Monte Carlo - Here's one of the best romantic comedies for the younger crowd. Selena Gomez stars as Grace, a girl on vacation in Paris with her two best friends (Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy). When she's mistaken for a socialite, the girls go along with it and are whisked away to Monte Carlo for a charity ball, where they find opportunities for romance -- and a mystery to solve. Cory Monteith also stars as the boyfriend of Cassidy's character that comes to Monte Carlo to pursue her, so this will definitely be a must-see movie for teens and 'tweens when it hits theaters on July 1.
Larry Crowne- Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts reunite in this comedy that might appeal to the "Community" crowd. After losing his job, Hanks' character Larry decides to go back to college. Here he becomes a part of a colorful group of outcasts, while also catching the eye of a teacher in an unhappy marriage (Roberts). Also watch for Cedric the Entertainer, George Takei, and Taraji P. Henson in this promising funny film about starting over on July 1.
Zookeeper- In this zany romantic comedy, everybody's favorite mall cop (Kevin James) is now a lonely zookeeper who is considering quitting his job to pursue a different life. In order to stop him, the animals at the zoo reveal that they can talk and start dishing out unconventional advice (at least for humans) on how he can win over his dream girl (Rosario Dawson). Stars like Adam Sandler, Cher, and Sylvester Stallone will be voicing the critter love coaches in this kooky comedy that hits theaters on July 8.
One Day - Here a relationship full of ups and downs is strung out over two decades. Anne Hathaway's character Emma meets Dex (Jim Sturgess) on the night of their college graduation, and the two proceed to meet up for one day out of every year for the next twenty. Of course the ending here seems way obvious, but fans of Hathaway movies definitely won't want to miss this one on July 8.
Friends with Benefits - In this rated R romantic romp, Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake play two friends who decide to start having sex together, no strings attached (just like her "Black Swan" costar Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher in that other movie earlier this year). But of course things start getting complicated when feelings get more than physical. Natalie might have won the Oscar, but, just as in "Black Swan," Mila's character is a lot more intriguing than hers in this movie. Check out the raunchy romance on July 22.
All's Faire in Love - In this funny movie about the cutthroat world of Renaissance fairs, Owen Benjamin stars as a "fetch boy" for a theater troupe that falls for a lovely wench (Christina Ricci). However, his romantic ambitions are tested by trouble when the group's boss threatens to replace them all with "real" talent. This one sounds crazy enough that it just might work, so be sure to check it out on July 29.
Crazy, Stupid, Love - It's sad to think that Steve Carell will be long gone from "The Office" by the time that this romantic comedy hits theaters on July 29, so his fans definitely won't want to miss a chance to see him in action again. Here he stars as a man who learns that his wife (Julianne Moore) has cheated him and wants a divorce, sending his life into a downward spiral. To learn to be single again, he enlists the help of a ladies' man (Ryan Gosling). So will he be able to find love again? Emma Stone also stars as a babysitter for his son, and no cast is complete these days without a little Bacon. Check it out to see if Michael can find another Holly on July 29.
Best Summer Romantic Comedies - August Release Date
The Change-Up - Here Jason Bateman's family man character switches bodies with that of his lazy, man-child buddy (Ryan Reynolds), giving him the opportunity to woo his gorgeous coworker (Olivia Wilde). It might be a little light on the romance, but guys might want to check out this manlier rom-com on August 5 (it also looks like it will be rated R).
So from romantic comedies set in romantic locations to those that involve animals, body switching, cheating, and lots of sex, there's sure to be some funny movies here for fans of all different types of summer love.
