10 Best Things About Summer Vacation

Julie Wimmer
Below find a list of why summer can be so fantastic!

10.) Fireflies. Depending where you live, fireflies usually come out around June. Our kids love to have a late dinner outside and then chase fireflies around until they are ready for bed.

9.) Corn on the cob. If you live on the east coast and have had the white corn, or the Silver-queen or Jersey corn, then you know what I am talking about. It is good grilled, boiled, broiled or microwaved. Slather with butter or eat it o'natural. It is so sweet, so crunchy and so good!

8.) Camp. If you are lucky enough to go to camp, whether it be for week or the whole summer, it can be a great experience. It is great to be able to explore the outdoors, swim in a lake and do stuff you normally wouldn't do, especially in the winter.

7.) Summer sports. My daughter is a fan (and player) of softball, so this time of year is great. It is warm out, and the dark of night does not come quickly. If you are a baseball fan this is a great time to get tickets, buy stadium food and watch a game.

6.) Sleeping late. Nothing says summer like not rushing, having no plans and sleeping in on a week day. It can be cathartic knowing you have a day where nothing is required of you.

5.) Concerts. Summer concerts are something everyone should try. It is so fun to have a picnic, bring a blanket or chairs, maybe even some wine, and sit outside watching a concert. Once you've tried it, you'll want to do it again and again.

4.) Swimming Pool. The pool, whether it be in your backyard, community or at a private club is a great way to cool off. Splash around, play games, tread water or just hang out inside of it chatting. Summer is not complete without pool days.

3.) Ice Cream. Whether the ice cream truck comes through your neighborhood, playing that eerie yet "come hither" music, or you have to drive, ride a bike or walk to the closest ice cream parlor or stand, summer is about ice cream. The cold shock of the sweet ice cream is always a summer favorite.

2.) Watermelon. Watermelon is good all year round, but even better in the summer. Eat it outside and let it drip all over. Spit seeds out into the yard or at each other. It's a fruit and a game!

1.) Beach. Sand, waves, towels, beach games and more. The beach is a fantastic treat in the summer. The hot weather combined with a sea breeze and a salty swim is a beloved activity for many of us.
