10 Birthday Cake Ideas for a 10-Year-Old Girl

Monica Bullock
Cheap character cakes from the local grocery store make a quick fix for an impromptu party but for her tenth, it just will not do. Reaching 10 is a special time; her birthday is in the double digits now. (Soon she will be driving your car.) Show her that you recognize this "special" birthday with a unique cake. Contact a professional baker or pastry artist to see pictures of some of these suggested 10 birthday cakes.

Sporty Cakes

Tomboys need some cake love too. If she is an avid sports fan, use her love for sports as inspiration for a cake. Bowling pin cakes, a baseball glove or a large football shape make nice cakes for a tomboy.

Topsy Turvy Cakes

If you watch the Food Network or any cake show, you know that topsy-turvy cakes are extremely popular. These types of layered cakes look like delicacies from Alice in Wonderland. The layers are not perfectly stacked and often have bold colors and decorations.

Ladybugs

Ladybug cakes continue to be a popular cake for 10-year-old girls. Buy a large cake for the party or individual ladybug cakes for the guests. Traditional red and black make nice ladybug colors but you could choose a pink and blue ladybug cake too.

Tea Pot and Cups

Serve tea at your 10-year-old's birthday party or a tea cake. A large teapot shaped cake will be a delightful conversation piece. Smaller tea cup cakes will be perfect for her favorite friends and guests

Castle Cakes

Every little girl wants to be a princess. Make her dreams come true with a castle cake. Castle cakes should be tall elegant and covered with candy embellishments. If she likes a particular princess, like Cinderella or Ariel, include her in the cake design.

Gift Box Cake

Make a cake that looks like a gift. Hat box or box shaped gifts are fun to "unwrap" and enjoy. Ask the baker to make the ribbon around the gift out of sugar. Use a favorite wrapping paper print as inspiration for this gorgeous cake.

Candyland Cake

Candyland is a game kids love. Celebrate her birthday with features and creatures found in the Candyland game. What a great theme Candyland would make for a birthday party! Hold her party at a local candy store for even more fun.

Doll Cake

An old-fashioned doll cake makes a nice choice. The doll's dress becomes the cake. The doll can be kept as a keepsake when all the cake is gone. Choose a southern doll that wears a large antebellum dress or a pretty doll wearing a billowy prom dress.

Diva Cakes

If your little girl is a diva or diva in training buy her a diva inspired cake. Instead of traditional white or pink, ask for hot pink and black tiger striped frosting. Have the cake decorating with lots of sugar "bling" and crowns. If possible, ask the cake artist to write "Diva" or your child's name on the cake in Baby Phat style.

Cell Phone

If she's been begging for a cell phone, give her one in cake. A giant cell phone cake with lots of buttons and gadgets is the perfect cake for a chatty child. For fun, surprise her with the real thing. She'll never forget this birthday.

You can use these same ideas, or something similar, for a silly husband who likes cartoons - LOL! Nice article.
