Rachel Heller
Movies and books are vital parts of our culture. Some people like to see movies and some people like books. In addition, there are people who are both avid readers and movie buffs who enjoy seeing their favorite books turned into a cinematic masterpiece. I am both an avid reader and movie buff; therefore, I can't wait to see what happens when an author's book is transformed into a director's vision. Some books translate into good movies. Here is a list of the top ten book inspired movies that are worth watching and reading.

1. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: This is one of my favorite books and movies of all time. Both the movie and book are delicious and fanciful. I still have a copy of the book and I watch the movie every year. This proves that chocolate is great with anything.

2. The Lovely Bones: My cousin recommend that I read the book. I couldn't put it down. In addition, the movie was intense and I was enthralled by it. I highly recommend reading and watching The Lovely Bones.

3. Alice in Wonderland: This book and its movie counterpart are pure fantasy and escapism. Who doesn't enjoy trips down rabbit holes and mad tea parties once in awhile!

4. Julia and Julie: The movie and book inspired me to make some of the recipes in Julia Child's book The Art of French Cooking. The book has a bit of colorful language; however the language adds to the Julie's culinary adventure.

5. Confessions of a Shopaholic: I love to shop; therefore, I saw the movie and read the book. They were both funny and educational. The both illuminated what could happen if people spend too much money.

6. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants: The book and movie stressed the bond of true friendship. In addition, both readers and movie watchers got to travel around the world.

7. Marley and Me: If you like a good dog story then, you will love the book and movie. I think that most dog stories make for good books and movies.

8. Harry Potter: The books are over 600 pages and the movies are about three hours long. But, the books and the movies are worth the time.

9. To Kill a Mockingbird: The book and the movie are both classics. They both put a positive outlook on race relations in the South.

10. The Secret Life of Bees: The book and the movie are an excellent look at the turmoil of the 1960s. They both make people stop and think about history.
