10 Celebrities with Famous Parents

Some celebrities become famous in their own right. Others have a better shot at becoming famous thanks to their celebrity parents. Did you know about these famous families?

Jennifer Aniston - John Aniston and Nancy Dow

Nancy Dow married actor John Aniston in 1965. They divorced in 1980. The product of their marriage was superstar Jennifer Aniston., best known for playing Rachel on Friends. Dow appeared in a few TV shows in the 1960s, and later became estranged from her daughter.

John Aniston is best known for playing Victor Kiriakis on the daytime drama Days of Our Lives. His Mafia-like presence wreaks havoc on the people of Salem.

Jamie Lee Curtis - Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh

Janet Leigh stole everyone's hearts in the Alfred Hitchcock classic Psycho. Tony Curtis played in classic films such as Some Like it Hot and Operation Petticoat. Together they had a daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis.Jamie rose to stardom in her first major movie role in Halloween. She has been in dozens of other movies, including True Lies, My Girl, and Freaky Friday. Currently Jamie is seen as the Activia yogurt spokesperson.

Janet Leigh continued to work by playing in occasional TV shows and small movie roles. She and her daughter appeared together in Halloween H20 and The Fog. She passed away on October 3, 2004.

Tony Curtis has not performed since 2008.

Melanie Griffith - Tippi Hedren

Tippi Hedren was the blond model who inspired Alfred Hitchcock, and who inevitably broke his heart. She starred in two of his classic movies: The Birds and Marnie. She was married to Peter Griffith from 1952-1961. Together they had a daughter, Melanie Griffith. Melanie became an actress in her own right, starring in films such as Working Girl, A Stranger Among Us, and Mulholland Falls. Mother and daughter both continue to work on a variety of TV shows and movies, and enjoy a close relationship.

Kate Hudson/Oliver Hudson - Bill Hudson and Goldie Hawn

Musician Bill Hudson married Goldie Hawn in 1976. Bill was a part of the band The Hudson Brothers and Goldie was popular on-screen, such as on Laugh-In. Their marriage ended in 1980, but not before spawning two children, Oliver and Kate.

Oliver Hudson grew up to do a few acting gigs, including a stint on a season of "Dawson's Creek." This led to him being named one of People's Sexiest People in 2003. Kate Hudson stormed onto the Hollywood scene, proving herself to be a talented actress in her own right. Her first truly memorable performance was in Almost Famous. She has also starred in other hits, such as The Four Feathers, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Raising Helen, and Nine. She continues work on several new movies due out in the next year.

Bill Hudson continued his work in music. He was on a handful of TV show episodes. He is currently estranged from his daughter, after announcing to her that she had a half-sister younger than her own son.

Goldie Hawn continues to work in Hollywood as an actress. Over the years, she has been seen in numerous films, including Private Benjamin, Overboard, Deceived, and The First Wives Club. Though her last movie was The Banger Sisters in 2002, she is supposedly starting work on a new project. She has been in a long-term relationship with Kurt Russell since 1983, with him being her kids' father figure.

Rashida Jones - Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton

Quincy Jones was a trumpet player who played with the Dizzy Gillespie band. He also worked with classic musicians, such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Miles Davis. He also worked closely with Michael Jackson. He and actress Peggy Lipton (The Mod Squad, Twin Peaks) were married and had two daughters, including actress Rashida Jones. Rashida is known for her work on Boston Legal, The Office,"and Parks and Recreation. She was also recently seen in the movie I Love You, Man.

Gwyneth Paltrow - Bruce Paltrow and Blythe Danner

Bruce Paltrow was a producer, most notably for the TV show St. Elsewhere. In 1969, he married actress Blythe Danner. Blythe has spent the majority of her career on the Broadway stage, and doing TV shows and TV movies, such as Huff and Will and Grace. She can also be seen in the Meet the Parents series, the latest installment of which is due out next year.

Together, the couple had two children, including actress Gwyneth Paltrow. Gwyneth first gained attention by being Brad Pitt's girlfriend after their work together on Seven. But then she broke out on her own in Shakespeare in Love after the two broke up. Other notable works have included The Talented Mr. Ripley, Shallow Hal, Proof, Running with Scissors, and The Iron Man series. She is married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, with whom she has two children. She enjoys a close relationship with her mother. Her parents remained married until her father passed away in 2002.

Chris Pine - Robert Pine

Chris Pine made heads turn in Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement and then took us to another world as Captain Kirk in the latest Star Trek movie. His father, Robert Pine, spent time on numerous TV shows, most notably as Sgt. Joesph Getraer on the classic CHiPS.

Martha Plimpton - Keith Carradine

Keith Carradine is part of a large acting family, including brothers Robert and David Carradine and father John Carradine. When working on the musical Hair, he and girlfriend Shelley Plimpton conceived their daughter Martha Plimpton.

Martha also became an actress, working on film classics such as Running on Empty, Parenthood, and I Shot Andy Warhol. She has appeared on a handful of TV shows, but most of her work is done on the Broadway stage. Her father Keith also continues to work onstage, on occasional TV shows, and in the occasional movie. His most notable and recognizable recent role was that of Frank Lundy on the Showtime series Dexter.

Maya Rudolph - Minnie Ripperton

Singer Minnie Ripperton launched to fame with her classic song "Lovin' You". Dick Rudolph is a music producer. In their ten-year marriage, which ended when Ripperton died in 1979, they had two children together. One was actress Maya Rudolph.

Maya is best known for her work on Saturday Night Live. She also recently was in the movie Away We Go. She and her father enjoy a close relationship, even working together on some projects.

Jaden Smith - Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and rapper, Will Smith, fell in love with actress Jada Pinkett. The two of them got married and had two children. Their oldest child, Jaden, has now become an acting phenomenon in his own right. His first big break was starring alongside his father in The Pursuit of Happyness. Most recently, he is the new Karate Kid.

Both parents are still hard at work. Will continues making blockbuster movies, most recently Seven Pounds with Men in Black III in pre-production. Jada Pinkett Smith currently stars on the show HawthoRNe. They are still married.

Amber Tamblyn - Russ Tamblyn

Russ Tamblyn stole hearts as Jet in the film classic West Side Story. Since then, he had done a handful of episodes on TV shows, as well as numerous other movies. He is also famous for fathering Amber Tamblyn with his current wife Bonnie. Amber broke out on her TV show Joan of Arcadia, as well as in the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie series.

    But Amber wasn't as much of a household name until her stint on Joan and in the Sisterhood movies. People beyond those who watch the soap started to know who she was.

    Cool, I didn't know of some of these. I think these ones listed have great talent. Sometimes wonder of the inherited creative genes. There are some however I wonder if they should be in the business as their parents. =) Great article Andrea!
