1. Kindergartners can help wipe down the tables and desks in the home. Parents can simply fill a small bucket half way with liquid dish detergent and water. Provide the child with a medium sized sponge and let him wipe away. Many kids love playing in water and so this can be a fun chore. Parents should be sure to use chemicals such as Lysol, or Spic and Span even if they are mild.
2. Kindergartners can dry the dishes. This is one chore that both parent and child can do together. The parent can wash the dishes and let the child dry them. If you are working with glass plates be sure that the child is seated in an area that is on the ground as this will lessen the possibility of the dishes breaking and the child getting cut. Parents should be sure to avoid handing small children sharp utensils.
3. Kindergartners can mop the floor. Parents should not expect miracles with the child mopping. This job can be tiring and difficult so don't pressure the kid to do it perfectly. Provide the kid with a mop and a small bucket of soapy water and let him mop away.
4. Kindergartners can sweep up the dust in the dust pan. Parents can go around the house and sweep up the dirt and place them in little piles and then let the child go around the house sweeping them up. The child might need a bit of help with this.
5. Kindergartners can sort small piles of clothes. If you have recently done the laundry provide your child with a small pile of clothing and have them sort the pile. Let the child place all the socks in one pile, all the shirts in one pile, and the underwear in another pile. Remember not to give the child too many pieces of clothing because they will get overwhelmed.
6. Let the kindergartner organize their toys. The child can routinely clean their room and place their toys in an organized manner. The dinosaurs can go in one place, the stuffed animals in other, and the arts and craft supplies in a different area.
7. Kindergartners can set the table each night. Parents can let their child set the table while they are preparing dinner. Setting the table can be fairly easy if parents explain to their child in a slow and patient manner how to do so.
8. Kindergartners can help clear the table after dinner. Once dinner has ended children can help remove the dishes, cups, and utensils and place them in the sink.
9. Kindergartners can feed the pet the same time everyday. This will teach them responsibility because they are caring for another living thing. Parents should make sure that their child can easily and safely access the pet's food and water.
10. Kindergarteners can water the plants and vegetables in the garden. This is such a fun job for children to do. If parents have a small garden or a plant or two in their home they can let the children water them every couple of days.
