10 Common Sense Tip for Las Vegas Tourists!

Welcome to Las Vegas Nevada, a city of millions of blinking lights, slot machines, shows and much more. I am sure you have dreamt of this trip for quite some time and can't wait to enjoy all Las Vegas has to offer to you. Las Vegas is a great City, but like every other place it has its downsides, its hidden treasures and its "Warning" spots. Allow this local implant of 8 years now, to point out some common sense Tips when visiting Las Vegas.

Tip #1: Be devoted to stay hydrated the right way!

Las Vegas is hot most times of the year. We reach the 100's as early as April/May at times and stay often in the higher digits until October. No matter, if it is in the hundred's or only in the eighties, you will need to stay hydrated when visiting us. This is an extremely dry climate here and your body will sweat out more fluids than you often can take in. Make sure you drink plenty of Water or enriched drinks like Gatorade, Lifewater, etc. Drink Iced Tea in moderation, since it is a duratic Beverage and you don't need to lose more fluids. Please do not drink Alcohol during the highest temperatures of the day, since the heat will make the alcohol more potent, and you can quickly find yourself with Alcohol Poisoning instead of nice buzz. I can't stress the hydration factor enough, around here that is truly a life saver.

Tip #2 If you want to save alittle money, don't stay on the Strip.

Avoid staying on the Strip as much as possible. I understand that part of the experience is being able to say you stayed in one of the big boys, but if money is more of a matter to you, you can stay in just as much comfort in a nice Hotel/Casino on the outskirts of the Strip or down on Boulder Hwy. Let me suggest one of our newer Casino / Hotels on Boulder Hwy, the Eastside Cannery. Their Rooms still start at $29.95 during the week.

Tip #3 Take advantage of free Entertainments and Festivals during your stay.

There are tons of things going on around Las Vegas, just depending on what you are interested in. Not all of them cost money or are expensive. By utilizing free and/or cheap entertainments, you can cut corners in your spending and splurge on something really big instead.

Tip #4 Consider hiring a Day Tour Guide

It may seem like a waste of money to hire someone to guide you down the Strip, but in reality it is a wonderful experience at a smallish pricetag. I know several Day Tour Guides who charge as little as $20 an hour with a minimum of 5 hours per person, but they are a fountain of information and can show some things others are not even aware of. Besides, why not let someone else take the planning of your day out of your hands for minute and just enjoy playing "follow the Leader"?

Tip #5 Be a good Tourist and know who to Tip.

Believe it or not, the way you behave with people in the service industry here can make a big difference in the way you are treated. Remember, that these folks really do take a lot of abuse from snobby Tourists. If you are friendly, kind and are not above tipping, you will find rather outstanding service and often some very helpful pointers from appreciative service providers. Some of the People you should not forget to show appreciation to are: Taxi Drivers, Waiter/Waitresses, your hostess in restaurants, your Tour Guides, your Room Service, and your Maid Service.

Tip #6 If you are a female and travel / stay alone don't advertise that fact!

As much safety as the hotels try to provide for their Guests, they cannot guarantee you 100% safety if you act like a fool. As a single or singular traveling female who blatantly advertises that fact, you put yourself at risk for physical harm. Never invite someone you just met into your room, tell them that you travel alone etc. Use common sense, keep your doors locked at night and the dead bolt secure. That does not only go for Las Vegas, but for anywhere in the world. Remember, that there are millions of good people out there, but those that mean to do others harm are always looking for an easy victim. Try not to broadcast that you are one of them.

Tip # 7 The Best Buffet for your Buck

Not all Buffet's are created equal in this Town, and often you can find some great Deals in unexpected places. Remember that you get what you pay for quite often. Here is my personal favorite to visit on Fridays & Saturdays for Dinner. The Four Seasons inside the Silverton Casino (Crab and Steak Night ... and do try their chocolate covered strawberries for desert). The Buffet inside the New Orleans Casino isn't bad either, but you really should stay away from the one inside the Circus Circus.

Tip #8 Know your highest heat time of day.

In most places the highest heat comes around noon to 2 pm, not here in Las Vegas. We reach our highest heat index around 5pm in the evening. So if you can't stand a lot of high dry heat, you want to make sure you are in an air conditioned Area during those times. It usually starts finally cooling down again around 8 pm.

Tip #9 Lotion your body down heavy.

Besides wearing sunscreen on your exposed skin, I would suggest you make sure to put lotion on your body each time after you take your shower or bath. The heat and climate does tend to dry your skin out rather quickly here, and you do not want to start feeling itchy all the time do you?

Tip #10 Bus system in Las Vegas

If you take the double decker buses here in Las Vegas expect to encounter FULL Buses quite often and having to wait. If you can walk the distance on the strip you would be better off doing that. Bus Connections here in Vegas are a gamble. Most of the time they just don't want to connect with each other. Make certain you give yourself plenty of time to get where you are planning on going. Buses usually run every 20 to 30 minutes here. Purchase a Bus Schedule (you can buy them on the Bus), so you can plan your route ahead of time. I believe they are right around 50 cents these days. A 24 hour no limit Bus Ticket costs you $4.00 for an adult, but you will have to pay extra for the Bus Trip on the Strip.
