10 Easy Steps to Build Your Own Backyard Fire Pit

One way of doing this is to gather each and every member of the family around a nice and cozy camp fire. You do not have to go to the woods just to set up a camp fire. You can have that nice camp fire right in the comfort of your own backyard by building your very own backyard fire pit. A fire pit is a small dug out pit where you can make a camp fire. Many outdoor activities, the most common is camping, use a fire pit to cultivate good relations among one another because it usually creates that certain mood which allows people to be brought closer together.

Making a fire pit is not that complicated. Just make sure that you keep safety in your top most priority list in building that fire pit. You certainly do not want it too close to anything that might easily catch the fire like dried up plants or wood which are highly flammable. The last thing that you want is to cause a huge fire that may need a handful of firemen to put the fire out!

Here are 10 easy steps in making your own backyard fire pit:

Step 1: Choose a safe location. This is in fact the most important thing you need to do to avoid any fire accidents.

Step 2: Gather all the necessary supplies for you fire pit: some digging tools, some pea gravel and sand and some concrete pavers or blocks.

Step 3: Draw a circle on the ground approximately with a circumference of 1 foot and a half and dig within the circle about 1 foot deep.

Step 4: At the center of the dug hole, dig another hole about 1 foot deep with a circumference of 6 inches.

Step 5: Fill both of these holes with pea gravel.

Step 6: Add sand approximately 3 inches at the top of the pit to bring the level of the fire pit to the level of the ground.

Step 7: Envelop your fire pit with the concrete pavers of blocks high enough so that the logs will not roll out of the pit.

Step 8: Construct a simple bench using some cinder blocks and a 2x6 redwood lumber about 6 feet in length.

Step 9: Dress up your bench using "key stone" landscaping blocks.

Step 10: Make sure that you make your backyard fire pit an activity that your family will enjoy!
