10 Facts You May Not Know About Disney World

Ebie Harris
Disney World is not actually located in Orlando, Florida like so many people think. It is located within two cities operated by Disney; Lake Buena Vista and Bay Lake.

When we think of Disney resorts we often think of them in terms of three categories. However, there are actually five classes of hotels on Disney property and not just three; Deluxe, Moderate, Value, Disney Vacation Club Villas, and the Campgrounds.

Many of the resort's offer Catch-and-release fishing excursions right on the resort's lakes. However, a Florida fishing license is not needed because Disney is considered private property.

You will find a total of 32 hotels on Disney property, but only 24 of them are owned and operated by Disney.

Disney World only opened with one park, Magic Kingdom, in the early 70s. The other three were added throughout the 80s and 90s.

The Magic Kingdom has the most visitors a year over the three other Florida theme parks. Walt Disney World is the largest resort in the world.

Disney's Animal Kingdom is over 580 acres making it almost 5 times as large as the Magic Kingdom.

The fastest ride ever created by Disney to date is "Test Track." This ride reaches speeds up to 65 mph. It was surprising to me because this ride seems so tame compared to some of the other ones.

You do not realize this when you enter the Magic Kingdom park, but it is built at approximately 107 feet. This was done so the cast members could use underground tunnels to move from one land to the next. With the high flood waters of Florida the tunnels could not be built underground, therefore, the Magic Kingdom starts off on the second story with the tunnels actually being built at the first level.

For most Disney restaurants you can make Advanced Dining Reservations right online. No need to call in any longer! This saves time and is hassle free.
