In a busy city like Houston, Texas it's hard to find things to do for free at almost anytime. However in this article you will find 10 free things that you can do on Valentine's Day that are sure to make for a great gift or date. Although all of the following activities can be done for free and be enjoyable, they can all include a nice meal afterwards that would not be for free, but that is for you to decide to or not to do.

1. Watch a sunset
This can be done almost anywhere at a high altitude. Consider checking out the The Weather Channel to see at what exact time the sun will be setting on Valentine's Day and then perhaps plan a picnic outside your house, or climb on your roof to watch the sunset together.

Picnic's are very cool things to do on Valentine's Day. If you don't want the traditional foods however, consider getting some expensive takeout and just hang out at the park. You can also just go there to hang out, play some frisbee, or checkout the scenes.

3. Game night
Game nights with other couples on Valentine's Day is something that you can do for free also. Just select a meeting time, and arrange to meet at someone's house. This could be the activity for the evening and afterwards you might want to have a nice romantic evening with your significant other.

4. Go to a museum

There are various museums in Houston that offer free admission. During Valentine's Day its very romantic to be around the arts, especially if your love isn't bored by them. You can spend the day discussing abstract art or talking about different paintings and why the author painted them the way they did.

5. Scavenger hunt
These are very fun! Consider making some index cards with cute words and then making them lead to another place. You can do this in your backyard, at a local park, and perhaps even throughout your bedroom. This is very fun, and it's very romantic. Plan to have something special at the last stop your love will make and it will make for a great Valentine's Day gift.

You can always watch a movie for Valentine's Day at this awesome outdoor theater that costs nothing. Take a blanket and sit on the ground while you enjoy a romantic movie that's for sure going to be showing during Valentine's Day. Take some candies or the traditional movie theater foods to make it more exciting.

7. Visit the Zoo

The Houston Zoo is free for everyone during holidays. This would be a perfect date for couples who have an interest in animals and wouldn't mind a day at a crowded place that may not be very romantic.

8. Backyard camping trip
If you would like to go camping with your sweetie, but you're on a budget, then take out the camping equipment and set up camp in your backyard. This will cost you nothing and it can be very romantic. Try making a fire and making smores while listening to romantic music under the stars.

9. Go to a friend's celebration.
If you know of someone who is getting married, having a birthday party, or just a get together, then that may be a cool place to be at on Valentine's Day, for a while at least. This can also guarantee a great time, and it costs nothing!
