10 Fun Animal Facts- Mice

When most people think of mice, their first thoughts are probably pests or vermin and not pets. But mice do make great pets and even first time pets for children. Mice are clean, social and very funny animals. Watching a child giggle as their pet mouse runs around their cage hopping here and jumping there will provide both you and your kids with hours of fun. They are very social friendly animals and will be happiest in cages with at least one other mouse.

1. Mice are clean animals and will make certain places in their cage for food, bathroom and for sleeping.

2. There are many varieties of mice including the domestic mouse, fancy mice, spiny mice and zebra mice.

3. Mice may play dead if they are frightened.

4. According to Best Fun facts, "The word mouse means 'thief'-same meaning as the word ferret:though ferret is a Latin word and mouse is a 4,000-year-old-Sanskrit word."

5. Walt Disney drew the mouse and named him Mortimer Mouse. His wife Lillian suggest Mickey Mouse.

6. According to Times Online, "Male mice woo their mates by serenading them with "mouse song", according to new research that adds mice to a slim roster of singing mammals comprising only, whales, bats and human beings."

7. Mice live between 1-2 years but I had a mouse live 3 years so they can live longer.

8. The first cloned mouse was born in 1997 and died two years, seven months later.

9. Most mice have tails that are as long as their bodies.

10. Mice use their whiskers to sense temperature changes, and help detect smooth and rough surfaces as they walk and run.
