Gift suggestion number 1). Where does the recipient reside? Does he or she live close to a museum? A season pass might be nice. Too pricey? How about just a day pass then? Or a family weekend pass? Let the history buff share his love of history with his family.
Gift Suggestion number 2). How about a subscription to the Smithsonian magazine? Still not sure? How about a subscription to America's Civil War, American Cowboy, or American Heritage? There are several magazines geared specifically for history buffs. Go to www.allyoucanread.com and opt for the one focusing on the historical aspect the recipient enjoys best.
Gift suggestion number 3). A good coffee table book can always be a winner, and there are always great ones in the bargain sections of the bigger chain stores, such as Borders or Barnes and Noble.
3b) The gift a new history book will be well received as well.
Gift suggestion number 4). Still seeking out the extra special gift, that one of a kind present? Go to your local antique store and browse around. Ask questions of the manager, explaining your price range and the area of history your recipient loves best. Most antique dealers are well versed enough in general history to put you in the right direction.
Gift suggestion number 5). Not quite what you are looking for yet? A history of the state parks of the recipient's hometown state might just be the ticket. Or the state where the recipient resides at present.
Gift suggestion number 6). Upgrading the recipient's cable to include the history channel might be the perfect way to go as well. Or the biography channel. (I love the biography channel myself!)
Gift suggestion number 7). Finances a huge burden to your gift giving? Research the recipient's favorite time in history and make a dish or dessert from that era.
Gift suggestion number 8). Involve your children; ask them to create a collage of history. Encourage them to write an essay or poem for the recipient. Children too young? Hand them some crayons and let them create away. The joy the recipient will receive from such love and handmade care will be cherished by the entire recipient, the child (ren) and you!
Gift suggestion number 9). Just put your own touch to whatever you decide and the gift will be well received.
Gift suggestion number 10). None of them still appeasing to you? Design a personal treasure hunt with several different clues and at the end of the hunt let the recipient find a chest full of historical movies (or movies that touch on history, like National Treasure).
