ABC Animals is an iPhone application for preschoolers. The demo for this simple flashcard game associates letters with words, such as "G is for Goose" and "D is for Duck." I like its neat feature that allows kids to draw a letter on the screen. The game uses phonetics to turn a letter into an animal name. Allowing your preschooler to practice his or her ABCs will cost you $1.99.

FirstWords:Animals iPhone app is similar to ABC Animals. This app is for toddlers and little ones that are just learning how to say doggy and kitty. Parents select settings such as letter hints and word order, and 39 animals interact with a toddler to encourage language-learning skills. The graphics of this game are cute. I particularly enjoyed that sound accompanies each animal. Much like the iPhone app for older kiddies, FirstWords costs parents $1.99.

FirstWords: Shapes is an iPhone app has the same idea as animals, except kids learn shapes. It is an application for toddlers but parents adjust the difficulty levels. Also, Shapes features sounds and letters of each shape.

Peekaboo Barn is a beautifully designed iPhone app for toddlers and it costs $1.99. The game gives children hints by making an animal sound. Which animal is hiding behind the barn down? Take a guess! Names of animals are available in English and Spanish, which makes this iPhone app a great choice for bilingual parents.

AnimalPuz iPhone application appeals to preschool children. I particularly like the simplicity of this tile matching game. Three tiles are available and children must form a full body of an animal. A perfect match results in a matching animal sound. AnimalPuz is entertaining enough to keep any toddler occupied for a while. The kid-friendly application is a bargain at $0.99.
