Ideas for Earth-Friendly Christmas Decorations

Christmas time is just around the corner and it's the season of giving and decorating lovely Christmas decor and ornaments. It will be great if we make our own. It'll be unique and can use recycled materials.

1. Christmas Stockings

Materials:

- a pair of sock
- big red and green buttons
- sewing kit (use green thread for a red button and red thread for the green button)

Simple steps:

Just sew the big button one at a time. Spread them evenly on the sock and alternately.

2. Mini Pine cone Christmas tree

Materials:

- dried pine cones
- assorted beads and other small ornaments
- any metal bottle cap
- green spray paint
- glue gun

Here what you should do:

Spray the pine cone with a green paint completely. If you want, you can sprinkle glitter while the paint is still wet. Glue the bottle cap at the bottom of the pine cone. Use tweezers to add the small sized ornaments and dip it on a glue gun. Make sure that you push each bead or embellishments firmly into place.

3. Window Decorations

Materials:

- pine cone dried and cleaned
- strings
- tape

What to do:

This is simple and fast. Take a piece of string that's twice as wide as the window where you'll have it displayed. Use 5-6 pine cones and tie the string around each pine cone with even spacing between each one. Using tape you'll want to attach the left end of the string to the left side of the window, the right side of the string to the right side of the window, and 25% in from the left side of the window and 25% in from the right side of the window you'll attach the string again in those two places.

4. Pine cone and bow ribbon ornaments

Materials:

- pine cone dried and cleaned
- glitter glue or glitters
- glue gun
- strings
- red and green bow (small one not bigger than the pine cone

Here's how:

Just simple put glitter glue on each side of the pine cone (on each scale side). Put the string on the top of the cone to use it to hang on the Christmas tree. Then on the string glue the bow.

5. Christmas Wreath

Materials:

- readymade green or wooden wreath with no design
- glue gun
- 3 pieces of artificial poinsettia
- 1 pc big ribbon bow (red color)
- 6 pieces of pine cone
- gold colored lace with 3" thick

Here are the steps:

Wrap the wreath using the gold lace; leave a space 1" apart. Lay the wreath on the table. Stick the ribbon bow at the top of the wreath using the glue gun. At the bottom of the wreath, stick the 3 pieces of poinsettia. Make sure it is centered on the ribbon at the top of the wreath. Then follow the pine cone. Attached the pine cones, 3 pieces of on both sides of the poinsettia. You can add up anything that you can think will suit best for your Poinsettia wreath.

6. Candle center piece

Materials:

- 2 candles
- floral foam
- waterproof floral tape
- poinsettias
- greens

Here's how:

Wet the floral foam with water. Trim the edges to form a circle. Secure the foam with a waterproof tape. Now place the poinsettias and the greens all over the foam, make sure its balance and properly in place. Lastly, put your candles where you want it and you can now place your poinsettia candle on your desired spot at home.

7. Decorative giant candle holder

Materials:

- giant glass in any shape
- candle that can be place inside the glass
- artificial poinsettia
- glue gun
- greenery
- plain white, green or red color plate (circle or square will do)
- small pine cones

Here's how:

Place the giant glass at the top of the plate. Make sure that the glass is in the center of the plate. Place the candle inside the glass; secure it with a glue gun. Line the 3 poinsettias at the front base of the glass; secure it with a glue gun. Then, place the greenery around the base of the glass. Then scatter the pine cone all over the base. You now have a beautiful decorative giant candle holder.

8. Poinsettias ornaments

Materials:

- small artificial poinsettia
- gold color glitters
- 3"x 3" square Styrofoam
- gold foil
- glue gun

Here's how:

Cover the square Styrofoam with the gold foil (it should look like a small gift). Attach to the poinsettia at the covered Styrofoam using a glue gun. Make sure that the box is larger than the poinsettia. Then, sprinkle the poinsettia with a gold glitters to add up a shining effect. You can now put the ornaments on your Christmas tree. You can make as many pieces as you want. Try also using different color of foil or poinsettia.

9. Bagful of treats for Christmas tree

Materials:

- plastic cellophane
- yarn (green and red color)
- scissor
- needle
- candy varieties
- ribbon, bow and lace

Here's how:

Cut the cellophane on your desired shape, it can be a pine tree, bell, circle, square, and any shape you want. It'll be better if the shape is in Christmas. Then, sew the sides of the cellophane with a green or red yarn, before closing all the sides, make sure that you put on the candies inside and leave a few string just enough to be hang on the tree. Then, put the bow on the top of the candy pack beside the string. Do it repeatedly to all the cellophane that you cut. Now you can hang those bagfuls of treats on the Christmas tree.

10. Bouquet Centerpiece

Materials:

- greenery
- artificial poinsettia
- Styrofoam
- long plate
- small pine cones

Here's how:

Place the Styrofoam in the middle of the plate. Then arrange the greenery and the poinsettia on the plate like a bouquet of flower. Stick it on the Styrofoam. Make sure it is balance and nice to look. Then add the small pine cones. You can put it on one side or you can scatter it on the bouquet.

  • Pine cones can be found for free or cheap
  • You can reuse many items for multiple decorations
Creating good quality decorations can be affordable, fun, and good for the Earth all at the same time!
