10 Green Stocking Stuffers for Kids

Eco-friendly Christmas Gifts for Children

Angela W. La Fon
If your family is striving to have a green Christmas with more recycled presents and sustainable gifts, don't forget the eco-friendly stocking stuffers. Christmas stockings can be among the worst offenders for not being green. Small plastic toys that are cheap and not durable, things that need non-rechargeable batteries and little things that are over packaged can waste your money and create waste too. So what are some green Christmas options for children's stocking stuffers?

Eco-friendly toys

Plan Toys is a green toy company that makes wooden toys from organic rubber wood, water-based non-toxic dyes that are free of heavy metal compounds and non-formaldehyde glue. Plan Toys also have high safety standards and they are developmentally appropriate and educational too. Here are some of my favorite picks of stocking stuffers for kids from Plan Toys.

Tie Up Shoe is available for a green Christmas 2010 for $8.00.

The Tie Up Shoe is a really cute little wooden shoe with a string perfect for those kids that are learning to tie their shoes. This is a great stocking stuffers for four and five year olds and once they've mastered tying shoes they'll use their imagination and find fun ways to play with this cool shoe.

Fish Castanets are available for a green Christmas 2010 for just $5.00 each.

The colorful wooden fish castanets are actually musical instruments perfect for three year olds and up for making a joyful noise for Christmas and a bargain at just $5.00 each.

Every kid should enjoy the wonder of a telescope and this cute one from Plan Toys is wooden, durable and safe.

Animal Dominoes Pouch is available for $19.95 for a green Christmas 2010.

This bag of animal dominoes provides several smart ways to play dominoes or matching games.

Organic Rubber wood Cars (taxi and police car) are available for a green Christmas 2010 for $11.95.

These cute cars are eco-friendly, safe and fun for pretend play for those little folks who like to go vroom vroom vroom.

Green Art Supplies

Mary's Soft Dough is a non-crumbling modeling clay that is made from natural ingredients. It's also made in the U.S.A. using American supplies. When kept in the container when not in use, Mary's Soft Dough can last for up to a year of creative fun.

Rainbow of 5 colors of Mary's Soft Dough is available for a green Christmas 2010 for just $8.95.

Mystic Purple Glitter Soft Dough is oh so pretty and a 5 oz. tub is available for a green Christmas 2010 for $4.95.

Stockmar makes non-toxic bees wax crayons in a set of eight bright colors. Parents like them because they are chunky for little hands and can be used on the edge for thin lines or on a side for wide coloring. They smell like honey too.

Stockmar beeswax crayons are available for a green Christmas 2010 for $19.95 from Amazon.com.

Sweet Treats

If you want to add just a little something sweet but with nothing artificial Yummy Earth makes lollipops, gummies and drops from organic ingredients and using natural coloring like black carrots or organic pumpkin.

You can find Yummy Earth organic treats online at luckyvitamin.com or in popular stores like Toys R Us, Babies R Us, Whole Foods and Wegmans.

Of course shopping at resale shops or making handmade toys and gifts are also excellent ways to enjoy a green Christmas.
