10 Healthiest Menu Choices at a Steakhouse

Dallas Bolen
Going out to dinner at your favorite steakhouse is a special treat. It is nice to let someone else worry about cooking the foods, as well as the clean-up. Having dinner at a steakhouse can also be a little difficult for those on a diet, or those looking for healthier menu options, because the restaurants typically don't include nutritional information on the menu. It is for that reason that I have compiled a list of the 10 healthiest steakhouse menu choices.

10. Many steakhouses offer grilled shrimp, this healthy menu option contains 365 calories and 36 grams of protein, add brown rice (216 calories), and you have a meal with less than 600 total calories.

9. A grilled chicken Caesar salad has between 308 to 400 calories, 8-12 grams of fat, 3 grams of fiber, and 33 grams of protein.

8. A 6oz fillet mignon is a steakhouse choice that contains only 304 calories, 4.3 grams of saturated fat, and 47.7 grams of protein.

7. A 6oz New York strip steak has only 292 calories, 8.7 grams of fat, and 50 grams of protein.

6. Grilled chicken is another healthy steakhouse staple. It contains 281 calories, 3 grams of fat, 35 grams of protein.

5. A 4oz sirloin steak contains 212 calories, 7.5 grams of fat, and 34 grams of protein. Pair this steakhouse option with a plain baked potato for a meal with only 500 total calories.

4. Grilled salmon is another healthy steakhouse option. This choice has 233 calories, and 25 grams of protein.

3. Lobster tails are a decadent steakhouse option that is not too hard on the overall calorie count. One 5.9oz lobster tail has only 200 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, and 35 grams of protein.

2. It is okay to go ahead and order the sweet potato on your next visit to the steakhouse, but leave off the brown sugar and order the butter on the side. A large sweet potato has 162 calories, 0.4 grams of fat, and 3.6 grams of protein.

1. Instead of a loaded baked potato that is a common side dish offering of steakhouses, opt for a side of grilled vegetables. With an average of 80 calories and 4 grams of fat, this side will reduce the number of calories in your steakhouse dinner.

In addition to ordering lower calorie steakhouse foods, have the kitchen put salad dressings, butter, and other toppings on the side. These additional items can push your fat and calorie total up in no time.
