10 Healthy Halloween Recipes for Kids of All Ages

Maggie Taylor-Mount
As a health conscious mom, I am always looking for new ways to feed my kids good for you food that isn't boring or bland. This Halloween, I will be making a few of these healthy recipes for a Halloween party my whole family will attend.

1. Faux Chocolate Balls from Grapes -

This is a simple recipe that is great for older toddlers made from two ingredients - grapes and chocolate sauce. This might convince my daughter to try grapes.

2. Healthy Halloween Trail Mix -

Trail mix is a familiar standby at our house. With the mixture of nuts and fruit or candy, it has a little sugar for a quick pick me up and protein to sustain energy for a while. These Halloween trail mixes will be on our list of things to try.

3. Healthy No-Bake Halloween Recipes -

Leave the oven off to whip up these Halloween recipes. With the perfect names to attract curious children, these healthy snacks should please partygoers.

4. Healthy Halloween Pumpkin Treats -

Autumn is when pumpkins are abundant and plentiful. What better time to make healthy pumpkin treats for friends and family members. Choose between pumpkin cookies, pumpkin cake, pumpkin mulled cider and a few other pumpkin recipes for the perfect Halloween treat.

5. Cream Cheese and Jelly Sandwiches -

These sandwiches are cut in the appropriate Halloween shapes, of course. My daughter is not a big jelly fan so we might have to substitute some other sweet substance.

6. Roasted Pumpkin Seeds -

Not only are roasted pumpkin seeds a great snack after pumpkin carving, but they are also a great activity to do with your kids. There are numerous ways to cook pumpkin seeds and this article gives a few new flavors to try.

7. Halloween Honey and Cinnamon Popcorn Balls -

Kids love popcorn and mine are no exception. These popcorn balls would make a big hit at my house, now I just need to dig out the popcorn popper.

8. Halloween Dessert Recipes with Healthy Options -

Here you have the option of creating healthy desserts or the higher fat and sugar laden versions. The Walking Halloween Cat Cakes will be a big hit in this cat-friendly house.

9. Fun and Healthy Halloween Snacks -

Whether you fall back on the old favorite, Ants on a Log or go with a new recipe, such as Spider Bites, this article has fast and easy Halloween snacks. Since peanut butter is a major protein source at my house, I think we will be trying the Spider Bites.

10. Healthy Halloween Class Party Ideas -

I am known for bringing the healthy snacks to school. Usually it is homemade pumpkin muffins but next time I might try the healthy rice crispy squares. That would be a huge treat for my kids because I usually refuse to allow anything marshmallow related to enter the house. Most marshmallows are not vegetarian and I prefer any animal consumption be a deliberate choice.

My own suggestion for a healthier Halloween: I trade all of the trick or treat booty for a toy per kid. Then I hide it and eat it myself.
