It's the 21st Century, which means that women are doing things that used to be designated mostly for guys. One of those things is starring in action movies. Some of the best action movies of the past 30 years have starred women and these 10 action movies starring women are the films that have grossed the most.

10) Kill Bill Vol. 2 and 9) Kill Bill Vol. 1
Quentin Tarantino's two revenge movies barely make the list in the 9th and 10th spots, beating out the second Tomb Raider movie. The first Kill Bill movie made $70 million and the second film followed that up with $66 million.

8) Alien and 7) Aliens
Another pair of franchise movies come in at 7th and 8th. Sigourney Weaver starred in the Alien movies and the first two movies in the series both made the top 10. The first Alien movie made $80 million and the second movie exceeded that total by bringing in $85 million.

Charlie's Angels technically falls into the category of action heroines even though there is not much action and the Angels aren't the greatest heroes in the world. Full Throttle is the first movie on this list to go over the $100 million mark.

Miss Congeniality is another movie that technically counts as an action heroine movie since Sandra Bullock is an undercover detective but the movie is largely a comedy about Sandra Bullock competing in a contest.

4) Charlie's Angels
The first Charlie's Angels movie made even more than its sequel. The sequel came in right at $100 million but the first Charlie's Angles movie made $125.

3) Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was an impressive word of mouth movie. Opening week Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon only made $663 thousand but overall it went on to gross $128 million. Compare that to Charlie's Angels $40 million opening and it is pretty impressive that Crouching Tiger passed it in total gross.

Angelina Jolie is the number one action heroine of today despite never getting a lot of good material to work with like the Terminator, Aliens and Kill Bill movies. The first Tomb Raider movie made $131 million and is arguably the number one action heroine movie of all-time.

The reasons Tomb Raider could be considered the number one action heroine of all-time is because Terminator 2 could easily be considered an Arnold Schwarzenegger move first and foremost. In my opinion Linda Hamilton is too vital a part of the movie for Terminator 2 to not be considered an action heroine movie and it wins in a landslide by grossing $204 million.
