Smart phones

New web based phones make it easy to join the mobile internet. We can receive music, exchange photos or do business with new web based mobile applications.

Smart phones enable us to work, play and socialize on the run. People can communicate with the social web while leading an active lifestyle. No more sitting in front of the tube waiting on transmissions when we get the stuff we need on our cell phone while we climb mountains.

Smart phones are the start of the best social media trends of the decade.

Browsers

Smart phones are the end of the decade while browsers were the starting point of the decade. Firefox has changed the way we surf the web. It lets us surf 10-15 sites at a time while we bookmark them through our browser on the run.

Browsers are saving passwords, directing our search efforts and helping us communicate. We used to use Internet Explorer by Microsoft as it was the only browser available, but with Firefox, Avant, etc. we now can choose our style and our look as well. Making our internet time quicker and more fruitful as well as fun.

Social Network Sites

We can now narrow our search for information, forums, friends, and business associates to name a few of the more specialized social networks.

LinkedIn is an example of a business network website were we connect with jobs or potential employees and contractors. This is where employment, ideas and concepts are conceptualized and brought to fruition.

Widgets

These mini capsules of code allow us to advertise, share or broadcast ideas and information fast and easy. For instance based on keywords, in an article written on the web, Google can advertise to us through a small block widget the size of an internet banner ad on what we are interested in or are reading about.

Real Simple Syndication (RSS)

In the early days of Web 2.0 we discovered blogs, which are places were individuals express their opinion or educate us on a particular subject. Problem was if we wanted to read these daily we spent a lot of time reconnecting to see if a new blog post had materialized.

This was a huge time waster so we started using RSS readers which informed us of a new post with a sample allowing us to connect easily, fast and efficiently.

RSS readers also delivered news to us daily allowing us to custom design our newspaper or magazine so that we got all the news, sports and weather we can read if that's what we prefer to read.

Blogs

The building blocks of Web 2.0 technology. They teach us, amuse us and amaze us. We learn to keep up with news, sports and wall street by reading blogs. They are like small webzines on a particular subject.

There are some really good blog's online. One I read often is Zen Habit's by Leo Babauta. It is about simple productivity and has benefited me tremendously.

Micro Blogs

Micro blogs such as Twitter helps us communicate better and more efficiently. We can describe a train ride, document a marathon run, market our products and of course be social animals.

Twitter is a way of using the Internet either with computers or smart phones to stay in touch and connected to our groups.

Photo-Sharing

Sites such as Flickr allow us to post pictures so we can share, sell or give away what we take with our camera. It helps to document history, share beauty or sell photos for webzines.

It is a great way to make friends and stay in touch with relatives. If you have ever wondered about a country or a place these sites will have pictures to colorize your imagination and dreams.

Video-Sharing

These sites are cool. You Tube is probably the number one video-sharing site. You can share music videos, home movies, documentaries or learn how to do stuff with these sites.

Just join a site an cruise to whatever interest you have. Much like the photo sharing but the moving images and sound bring to life every thing you dream.

Bookmarking

You can bookmark music, articles, books, or anything. You can search the bookmark sites and find who has the best bookmarks for you. This is a great way to learn about different subjects or just for entertainment. Also communicate with the person whose site you like as you are sure to have many interest ion common.

A bookmark is a way of tagging a website or anything on the web to see later or so others can find and enjoy. Digg is an article site and a good place to start and learn about bookmarking.
