10 Movie Quotes that Have Personal Meaning for Me

Movies can have a profound impact on your life. Here are a few movie quotes that have touched me personally.

The Other Boleyn Girl:

Mary is begging the King to spare her sister's life, and the King asks her why she is there for her sister who had stabbed her in the back. Mary (Scarlett Johansson) replies, "Because she is my sister, and therefore one-half of me." This movie quote is special to me because my sister and I are very close. I truly feel like she is one-half of me, and if something were to happen to her I would feel like I had lost a part of my soul.

When the King discovers Anne's feelings for him he questions her on how she feels about betraying her sister. Anne (Natalie Portman) tells him, "We are sisters, and therefore rivals." Although this movie quote contradicts Mary's feelings for her sister, this statement also has a deep meaning for me. As much as I love my sister, I do feel like we are rivals. We secretly compete to be the best. However, I would never turn my back on my sister like Anne did to Mary.

Another movie quote from The Other Boleyn Girl that I like is when Lady Elizabeth (Kristin Scott Thomas) says to her husband, "These were the rooms for the king's closest friend. His head now rots on a spike." She says this when her husband is marveling at the rooms that King Henry gave them. I have personally been a close friend with someone and then had them stab me in the back. It is a horrible feeling but you know that it is a possibility. I think everyone can relate to what Lady Elizabeth is saying because everyone has experienced it at some point or another.

Hitch:

When Hitch and Sara are making a toast Sara asks what they should toast to. Hitch (Will Smith) responds by saying, "Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink. But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away." I love this movie quote because it is really a good thing to keep in mind for your life. I cannot think of any better way to lie, steal, cheat, or drink than the ways Hitch says to. This is one of the quotes I try to live by.

Cinderella:

One of my favorite movie quotes from Cinderella occurs at the beginning of the movie when the clock chimes. Cinderella (voiced by Ilene Woods) says, "'Oh, that clock! Old killjoy. I hear you. 'Come on, get up,' you say, 'Time to start another day.' Even he orders me around. Well, there's one thing. They can't order me to stop dreaming. This movie quote is especially applicable in today's society because we live such ordered and scheduled lives. Sometimes I feel like everybody else is telling me what I should do and the only thing I have that is mine are my dreams.

When the Fairy Godmother visits Cinderella, Cinderella is in disbelief. She says, "Oh, no. No, it isn't true. It's just no use. I can't believe. Not anymore. There's nothing left to believe in. Nothing." I like this movie quote because sometimes I feel like everyone is lying to me and I feel like I can't believe anyone. I totally know how Cinderella feels when she says this movie quote. I just found out a few hours ago that my boyfriend of almost a year is cheating on me. The worst part is I found out because of his display picture on Myspace. How ridiculous is that? So, right now I am really feeling like I can't believe in anything or anyone.

Marie Antoinette:

A movie quote from Marie Antoinette that I have a personal attachment to is a quote that Marie (Kirsten Dunst) says. The quote is, "Letting everyone down would be my greatest unhappiness." I hate letting people, especially the ones I love down. I push myself to be the best at everything I do because I don't want to let anyone down. When I do let someone down, I take it very hard and I get upset with myself.

The Prestige:

At the end of the movie, Cutter (Michael Caine) tells the little girl, "Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it because you're not really looking. You don't really want to know the secret... You want to be fooled." This movie quote is so true for me. I want to be fooled about certain things. I might half-heartedly try to find out the answer to something, but in the end I realize that being fool is more fun (or in some cases necessary for your sanity). I like magic tricks like in The Prestige, but I would prefer not to know the secret to the trick.

When Sarah and Alfred are arguing about whether or not Alfred loves her, Sarah (Rebecca Hall) says, "I want... I want you to be honest with me. No tricks, no lies, no secrets." This movie quote touches my heart because this describes exactly what I want in a relationship. I want complete honesty. I don't understand how you can love someone and not be honest with him or her, in fact I think it's impossible.

Pride and Prejudice:

When Mr. Darcy asks Elizabeth to marry him Elizabeth (Kiera Knightley) responds by saying, "Sir, I appreciate the struggle you have been through, and I am very sorry to have caused you pain. Believe me, it was unconsciously done." I would never respond to a proposal in this manner, but this movie quote helps sum up my feelings for people that I have hurt in the past. I don't try to hurt people, but sometimes it is unavoidable. When I do hurt people, it is unconsciously done and I always feel remorse when I realize that I hurt them.
