10 Netflix Watch Instantly Movies You Haven't Seen of the 2000's

Michael Luchies
Netflix watch instantly has allowed millions of movie lovers to view films that they otherwise would never have heard of. The films available on Watch instantly are not always available as they rotate the inventory that can be viewed on demand. Here are ten films I recently viewed that are worth watching, and the reason why I would recommend it. My taste in movies evolves around films that are well written and contain elements of surprise, shock, laughter, or evoke deep thought. I enjoy action films, horror flicks, thrillers, indie, drama, dark comedies, political dramas, and some sci-fi. These movies are all from the last decade, but in most cases are not well known films. I am not going to provide any spoilers or in-depth commentary, so I am including just a sentence or two on each film.

The Air I breathe (2007)- Depressing? Maybe, but very enjoyable and filled with stars (Kevin Bacon, Forest Whitaker, Brendan Fraser, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Andy Garcia, and even Emile Hirsch). I love it, but low ratings may signify some are just not willing to grip with unpleasant scenes.

Brick (2005)- Joseph Gordon-Levitt is fantastic in this "teen drama" that is enjoyable by all ages and packs a lot of punch and some decent twists and turns. I have many opinions on this film but will save the rest and let you form your own after watching. This is worth a watch to anyone who enjoys a fantastic screenplay.

The Burning Plain (2008)- Not my favorite on the list, but a very good watch and it will keep you interested. Charlize Theron is at her best, and as long as you don't figure out the plot in the first 15 minutes I think you'll like it. Don't look for spoilers, just watch it.

Moon (2009)- A little slow, but a very good modern sci-fi that takes place on a space station. Sam Rockwell is one of the most underrated and unrecognized all around solid actors of our generation and puts forth a fantastic effort in this drama. This movie has developed a strong following even though it never made it to the mainstream, and has big reviews on IMDB.com and other places around the web.

Triangle (2009)- A teen thriller with a better story and great writing besides the very end in my opinion. You will be on the edge of your seat, just keep an open mind throughout the movie. Many parts are repetitive, but for good reason.

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007)- This is a tough story for many to digest, but Ethan Hawke and Philip Seymour Hoffman play up to their potential in this crazy story of two brothers who....well you'll just have to watch it. If you can't stand suspense and uncomfortable scenes, then stay away.

11:14 (2005)- A web that takes you around many different stories that all link together in the end, which is not different in nature to several of these other movies. Swayze, Swank, and several others play in this death filled action drama that revolves around 11:14 pm in a small town.

Powder Blue (2009)- Not a great movie, but has enough star power to warrant watching. Forest Whitaker, Jessica Biel, Ray Liotta, Lisa Kudrow, Patrick Swayze, and more star in this movie where Christmas Eve brings many people together due to particular circumstances.

The International (2009)- Clive Owen and Naomi Watts play in this thoughtful thriller. It wasn't a hit in theater's, but is a good movie to watch when looking for entertainment on a boring rainy night when you are surfing around on Netflix.

Criminal (2004)- John C. Reilly plays another half-witted character but this movie is not a Step Brothers or Talladega Nights, but an interesting crime/comedy/drama that has a solid story. There is enough action and comedic instances that will keep your intention.

Enjoy! Please list any others from the 2000's that you recommend that are currently available via Netflix Watch Instantly.
