10 Popular Harry Potter Spells and Curses

As the recent Harry Potter movie "The Half Blood Prince" has been released there are more and more fans emerging and being interested in J. K. Rowling's wizard world that she has created. Throughout the books, and all of the Harry Potter movies many spells have been used. However, with so many spells included it is sometimes hard to remember what they are used in the movies. Here are the 10 most popular Harry Potter spells that are usually used in almost all the books, and including all the Harry Potter movies that have been released.

#10 Expelliarmus

This spell is used is many of the books and Harry Potter Movie, and will be used in the last movie especially since there will be a lot more battles. The Expelliarmus spell disarms an opponent. This spell is used by both sides and is a popular spell that have been used since the first Harry Potter book.

# 9 Riddikulus

This spell was learned by Harry during the book and movie "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". This spell is to defeat a creature called a boggart that when in contact with a person it turns into the thing you are most scared of. As you are saying the spell you think about what makes you laugh, and then the boggart will turn into it.

# 8 Alohomora

This spell is a simple one that opens locked objects. As Harry, Hermione, and Ron go through their adventures they have used these spell to unlock doors, locks and other objects. This spell will be used for the last movie as well.

# 7 Accio

This spell has been used by Harry to summon objects such as brooms, the Gryffindor sword, and other things. This spell has been in used in almost all of the books, and it will be part of the last movie.

# 6 Crucio

The Crucio curse is one of the three unforgivable curses. It is used by some of the death eaters, and also Harry attempted to use it as well. This curse tortures a opponent, and can make them go crazy. We also find out that the Crucio Curse is the reason Neville's parents ended up loosing their minds and being placed in a hospital.

# 5 Morsmorde

This spell conjures the dark mark and is used by Voldemort, and the Death Eaters. It is used throughout several of the Harry Potter books, and it should be used in the last movie as well.

# 4 Imperio

The Imperio curse is also an Unforgivable one used to control a person. This curse is used to control a person to do actions that may be against their will. This curse was used is several of the books and is mentioned in Book 7 as well.

# 3 Expecto Patronum

Harry is well known for this spell in the books especially since he used to save Sirius. The Expecto Patronum spell creates a Patronus (energy that is shaped like an animal) to defend from Dementors and the Dementor kiss. A Dementor can drain all happiness from someone and if they "kiss" you, then you will be drains of all life basically. Only really powerful wizards can conjure a strong Patronus.

# 2 Stupefy

This spell is used a lot throughout all of the Harry Potter books and movies. The Stypefy spell knocks out or stuns opponents. This spell is used a lot during battles and as a defensive and offensive attack.

# 1 Avada Kadavra

The Avada Kadavra is the worst of all three unforgivable curses. This curse has been either mentioned or used in almost every Harry Potter book especially in books 4, 5, 6, and 7. In book one; we learn that this is the curse Voldemort used against Harry's parents.

So next time you are reading a Harry Potter book, or watching the movies you now know what each of these spells and curses are. When the last movies are released be sure to look out for these spells and curses to be used.

    You forgot Septumsempra! And lumos ... probably the most popular spell in the book (though I guess yours focuses more on battle/fighting spells, and lumos ... well, let's face it, isn't going to do much in a fight, lol) Fun times ... I JUST got into the books (REALLY into them ... read the first three in two days, then the last three in 2 days, haha), so it's fun to see stuff still flying around :)
