10 Quotes that Keep Me Going

Avery Ryan
Here are some quotes that keep me going when I have an off day.

"Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly." - Robert Francis Kennedy

I like this quote because it reminds me that it is okay to fail sometimes - when you fail, it will only lead to greater things. Sometimes it takes a huge disappointment for a great achievement.

"Always take a stand for yourself, your values. You're defined by what you stand for." - Oprah Winfrey

This quote always reminds me to be myself, to stand up for my values, and to stand up for what I believe in. It reminds me that I need to do what is important to me, even when I am feeling pressured by others to do something I do not believe in or that goes against my values.

"To oppose everything while proposing nothing is irresponsible" - President George W. Bush

Although many, many people dislike President Bush, I still like this quote. He makes a good point. If I do not have a better idea, I will not oppose something, because then all I am doing is complaining. If I do not like something, this quote reminds me that I should come up with another solution before I oppose the original.

"An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind." - M.K. Gandhi

Another great quote. This quote reminds me that when someone does something hurtful to me and I want to get revenge, that seeking revenge will not do any good; it will just make things worse.

"The future does not belong to those who are content with today, apathetic toward common problems and their fellow man alike, timid and fearful in the face of bold projects and new ideas. Rather, it will belong to those who can blend passion, reason and courage in a personal commitment to the ideals of American society." - Robert Francis Kennedy

I really like one. It really keeps me going when I get frustrated. It reminds me that the future is in our hands and if we want to see changes in our future we have to do it - we have to be passionate, have good reason, courage, and not be afraid to make commitments. It is okay to want a better tomorrow, to care about problems, and to embrace new ideas.

"Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth." - John Fitzgerald Kennedy

A great quote to remind us that it is okay to be different. Being different allows everyone to grow as a person and it allows the world to grow too.

"What matters is how you feel inside, because feeling beautiful on the inside is key to looking good." - Oprah Winfrey quoted in Woman's World 9/20/05

This is always a good thing to remember. True beauty starts from within. So, if I think I am having a bad hair day or something along those lines, I remember these words to help me feel more beautiful.

"Whatever is begun in anger ends in shame." - Benjamin Franklin

Most of us have said or done something we did not mean when we were angry and later regretted it. When I get angry about something, I remember this quote before I say or do anything to try to prevent myself from saying or doing anything that I will regret later.

"Laugh at yourself, but don't ever aim your doubt at yourself." - Alan Alda

Learning to laugh at yourself will make all kinds of situations easier. It will not make you want to run away from an embarrassing situation so much. It is also important not to doubt yourself - you always need to have faith in yourself. So, whenever I am afraid of embarrassing myself I think of this quote and remember that it is okay, and I remember to laugh at myself and to have more faith in myself. If you cannot trust yourself, who can you trust?

"The man who has no imagination has no wings." - Muhammad Ali

This is a quote that reminds me to think outside of the box when I am stuck. There is nothing wrong with using your imagination.

There are tons of great quotes out there that can have significant meaning to you or even help you out on a rough day. These are just a few of my favorite quotes!
