Reason for pet adoption #1 - Unquestioned loyalty.
As long as you provide your pet with plenty of food, water, and love, you will have eared their unquestioned loyalty. You certainly can't get that type of loyalty from most people. Pets certainly aren't a replacement for human relationships, but they are a great addition to anyone's life.
Reason for pet adoption #2 - Pet owners live longer.
It is a proven fact that dog and cat owners live longer than those who do not have pets. If your own mortality doesn't drive you to adopt a cat or dog, nothing will. Pets are one of the best stress relievers there are.
Reason for pet adoption #3 - They give back much more than they receive.
You don't need to provide your pet much in order to receive it all back ten fold in terms of their unwavering devotion and love. Just when you get upset with them, that is when they turn on the real charm. They can help you through some of the roughest times of your life.
Reason for pet adoption #4 - There are enough pets that need good homes.
There is no need to go out and purchase a pet. Animal shelters are filled with healthy cats and dogs that need good homes. Adopting a pet also gives you the satisfaction of knowing that you probably saved his or her life.
Reason for pet adoption #5 - There are cats and dogs to fit any lifestyle, personality, or situation.
There are breeds of cats and dogs to accommodate just about every need. Certain cats and dogs can do well in a more low-key family while others need a lot of attention and exercise. If you take the time to do a little research, you will be more likely to adopt a pet that is right for you and your family.
Reason for pet adoption #6 - You might just be surprised at how attached you become and how much you learn.
You might find it silly that pet owners become so attached to their pets; that is until you become a pet owner yourself. After a short while, you won't know what to do with him or her. In addition, your pet will have a lot to teach you. If you research his or her breed, you might be surprised to learn just how much of their personalities are genetically programmed. They also have a lot to teach with regards to love, forgiveness, and dependence.
Reason for pet adoption #7 - Pets are wonderful stress relievers.
This may be why pet owners live longer than others. In either case, you can feel the stress melt away when you pet your cat or dog. No matter how hard you try, you can't stay mad at them for very long.
Reason for pet adoption #8 - Pets can help relieve loneliness.
If you live alone, a pet can really help you feel a little less lonely. Both cats and dogs make great companions.
Reason for pet adoption #9 - Pets can teach children responsibility.
Pets are a great way to teach children of all ages about responsibility. Just be prepared to not only ensure that their responsibilities are being taken care of, but also be prepared to step in when necessary.
Reason for pet adoption #10 - Pets can led to new hobbies.
As a result of adopting a new cat or dog, you may decide to get involved with the local animal shelter or humane society. You may also wish to get involved in volunteer work with pets or showing pets in competitions.
No matter how you look at it, you can't lose when you decide to adopt a pet.
