Terry McMillan is the author behind hit books Waiting to Exhale and How Stella Got Her Grove Back. In 1992, waiting to Exhale landed on The New York Times bestseller where it remained for several months. The success of these books were matched by the success they experienced at the box office when the pair were transformed into feature length films. Born October 18, 1951 in Port Huron, Michigan, McMillan worked in a library at the age of 16-years old. Her love of books has remained with her decades later. McMillan thought that she found love again at 40 something and married Jonathan Plummer in 1998. Five years later the couple amid controversy filed for divorce. She published The Interruption of Everything in the same year on July 19, 2005. Her last book was met with a degree of success and her most recent book is entitled Getting to Happy.

In Getting to Happy, the characters fast-forwards 15 years from where they left off in Waiting to Exhale. Discover the lives of the four friends including Bernadine, Savannah, Gloria and Robin. Bernadine apparently did learn to trust again, Gloria may or may not be still with her handsome neighbor and Savannah is probably still struggling with her passion for a married man. Robin's life fifteen years later explores the issues we or those closest to us face at some stage of our lives or another. Waiting to Exhale the film starred Angela Bassett, Whitney Houston, Loretta Devine, Lela Rochon and was directed by Forest Whitaker.
