10 Reasons People Fail to Achieve Business Success

Douglas Mefford
Every day finds more people beginning to venture into home-based business. Regrettably, very few will find the success and security they seek. There is a system to their failure and what follows are ten of the primary reasons they will not accomplish the financial success they hope for.

First off, many people begin their endeavors without a proper knowledge of what they are up against. It is not so much ignorance of the facts as an unwillingness to learn what is needed for a successful business. It takes time to read and study to develop a good working knowledge of the business process. Sometimes they fail to study for lack of knowing just where to find solid, unbiased information. Starting a business on a "hope and a prayer" usually leaves one without a prayer of a chance at success.

The second reason for failure is to begin without a plan for their business. Well over 90% of beginning entrepreneurs do not have a real idea of how they are going to attempt building a market for their product or service. With no plan of action, many new business people will flounder around directionless; trying one after another ideas that are not integrated in an overall approach. With a plan worked out, even one that ultimately needs modification, the new businessperson will at least have a firm idea of the direction they are going.

The third big reason for business failure is in not being able to organize your time effectively. If a person develops poor work habits and fritters their time on distractions or unrelated activities they will not find time to focus on the core needs of their business. This can be especially problematic for home-based businesses that must deal with family or friends who do not understand that even if you are at home, you are still at work. You must have a schedule for your day. Know what you must accomplish and don't let non-business matters prevent you from focusing on what it takes to succeed.

Reason number four for failure in business is a lack of foresight and the ability to dream of where you are going with your endeavor. To succeed one must be able to look beyond the present situation and dream of how the future will unfold through their efforts. Realize that the money you have to work with to invest in your business must come from the business. Just taking the daily profits to spend will soon leave the coffers empty. If you do not look at how you can invest in improvements and make your money work for you, there may soon be none left to work with.

Many people fall prey to conformity. Reason five for business failure is in feeling they need to do what everyone else seems to be doing in their business. Without taking a few risks and trying unusual or novel ideas, they will never find their way out of the crowd to stand out as an innovative businessperson. Often the most successful people are those who go against the grain and dare to do things a bit differently.

The sixth major reason for business failure lies in poor debt management. Without developing frugal spending habits, a beginning businessperson may feel they need to borrow to keep their endeavor going. Without realizing that interest payments make the items the borrowed money was spent on much more costly, they can run up such a drain on income that, once more, finances and their business will collapse.

Our seventh reason for business failure lies in attitude. Many people, especially those who have never been wealthy, have ingrained within them a poor attitude about gaining wealth. It is all too common for one to be pessimistic about gaining the financial security they crave. Without the attitude that they deserve to be a success, they will often subconsciously sabotage their own efforts towards success. Optimism is the best defense against the common negative ideas and stereotypes that prevent new business people from achieving their full potential.

In line with the lack of planning and forward looking is the eighth reason. A successful business person will make a plan for how to deal with unforeseen setbacks and misfortunes. Those who forget to insure themselves and their business, which will include their homes and health, can be wiped out at the first stroke of misfortune.

Without thought and training, most people are not properly disciplined in themselves. Without a strong enough will to say "no" even to themselves, many failing business persons will fall into the trap of easy credit availability and the manipulation of advertising that can lead them to buy in to schemes and scams just because they sound good.

Finally the tenth big reason for failure is in procrastination. When the opportunity for success presents itself one must be ready to throw their effort towards it. Too often a person will put off investigating an opportunity. While it is equally bad to leap at the first chance, one should quickly investigate a situation when it presents itself so they can take the best advantage of it. Some tasks in developing your own home-based business may seem hard, but it is harder to embrace these tasks if you keep putting them off. Eventually the time will have passed for success and they are left in the dust of those who have forged their way through unpleasant tasks.

It is easy to fail. One should always be ready to take advantage of the mistakes of others and learn to avoid the pitfalls and traps that guarantee failure. By learning what others have done wrong, you can be more quickly on the road that leads to that ultimate business and financial success you have dreamed of.
