Noting that your computer is your workplace, if you can't just get your work done without being bothered by your computer's complaints, then you need a new computer. Chances are, there isn't really anything you can do to make it work, given the value of your time and fixing that old crappy machine.
This works for everyone as well. Your computer just won't get it done. Get a new one.

Those new installments you bought for the old computer can still be used with the newer machine (just make sure to check for compatibility this time.)

It's not as if you're required to run Windows 7, or if you're a MAC lover...or Linux user and such.
However, these system requirements are often similar to new programs you will need in your work or for everyday use. Some applications require even more.

Aside from upgrades, if your computer has had broken hardware, you can simply just replace it, with the exception of the motherboard.
No one will advise any ordinary computer user to mess up starting from the motherboard, because you will have to unplug everything (plus its senseless because motherboards are expensive and you'll be in a compatibility dilemma)
10th Sign You Need a New Computer - Computer has very slow clockspeed
Processors are just as complicated, which you shouldn't mess with. For modernity's sake, 2.0 Ghz below needs retirement already.
